The hair and makeup was indeed excellent, as it was in ST09 and STID.

I don't know, Kirk's hair seemed to change scene to scene in Into Darkness:lol:

Wasn't too fond of Spock's wig in Beyond, otherwise everything looked amazing.

Is it me or does Vulcan hair just look somewhat "off" on anyone other than Nimoy?

Quinto's Spock hair has looked the best out of the rest, but on all the TV shows and movies, anytime a Vulcan or Romulan is shown on screen, their hair just doesn't look right..

Congrats to the team on ST:B... It's not one of the BIG awards, but it's still quite an honor. :)

    Shamefully overlooked in The Razzies...

You're not the only one. It doesn't really bother me, but I do notice. Like you say, Zachary Quinto wears it as well as one can, but for me Nimoy's looked completely natural. Anyone else who wears it (aside from Suzie Plakson's Selar), has always seemed off.

Of course, with Nimoy, wasn't it his actual hair, vs. just about everyone else having to use a wig to achieve the bowl cut look?

And agreed, about Selar.. That looked good too..

Vulcan and Romulan hair looked just fine until the days of TNG when somebody on the production side decided that they should all have nearly-identical bad Moe Howard cuts.

No nomination for FX? woudve thought so with Yorktown, and Ent destruction.
Regarding the previous films strange there was no FX nomination for Trek II despite the groundbreakig first use of CGI (that year FX was Blade Runner, ET, Poltergeist) must've been the reuse of TMP FX that prevented it getting nominated. Also III, IV, VI, GEN, FC & even NEM could've done with FX noms but missed out (the standard was particularly high those years)

I'm not seeing Paramount making a promo campaign for Oscar. Warner did it with Mad Max, and in my opinion, It wasn't that thing.

This year competition was very stiff with Jungle Book and Star Wars Rogue One.
Last year VFX Oscar went to ex-machina and the year before Star Trek into the darkness got nominated so hopefully the next one will get another opportunity!
BTW, if you havnt seen it, Jungle Book VFX are beautiful and I hope it will win this year!

yes. it'd have been a bonus for Beyond after the disappointing box office.. think most thought it would get it as Beyonds make up just seemed vaster (50 aliens!) and superior to SS.. and itd have been something of an acknowledgement of the 50th (and Anton/Leonard). plus Beyonds reviews were far better than SSs - I know that has nothing to do with make up but usually the Oscars favour the more critically accepted movies

You're totally right. It's shocking that STB didn't get a visual effects nomination. Yorktown, the Enterprise destruction, and even that quick shot of the Enterprise at warp speed were stunning. Sigh.

I don't know what kind of criteria they even used to give the prize to Suicide Squad. I just know that artistically and technically the make up used for that movie and beyond are very different and different also is the purpose, in a way. Comparing them might be very silly in the first place because it's obvious that movies like trek will look like more hard work and complex since they had to recreate alien species basically.

wouldnt mind too much though. The Oscars are hilariously unreliable in general; it's a very limited system influenced by inner politics of Hollywood, that survives for the sake of nostalgia.
