We just had "Jedi" in the title. Not bad otherwise.

It will be interesting to see if the last Jedi refers to just one person, presumably Luke, or to multiple people. Maybe there are other Jedi on that island that Luke was training in secret? Maybe Luke starts a new Jedi Council?

That's why 'Return of the Jedi' has always been my favourite SW title; it's the most ambiguous, in that it can refer to both Anakin and Luke: the return of Anakin to the light side, or the promise of the eventual return of the Order under Luke. It'll be interesting to see how this title compliments that of Episode VI; Yoda said to Luke, "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be," but also told him to "Pass on what [he has] learned." He was supposed to be the first of the new Jedi, not the last of the old order. There's something sad about the reflection of Luke's failure in this title.

I wasn't expecting the title reveal to occur until late in the spring. Though I think the movie deserves a proper title and not just be referred to as Episode 8. As for any deeper meaning behind the title I am not sure. If Luke is training Rey than Luke can hardly be the last Jedi. I think it is safe to assume at least some of Luke's apprentices managed to survive the slaughter caused by the Knights of Ren. However, if the survivors number more than a half dozen I would feel cheated.
Progress takes time and is filled with setbacks. That's your story right there.
I was expecting it any day now. It should have come out sooner but it's understandable that they didn't want to detract from Rogue One.
I like it, although I would have preferred that as the title for Episode 9 which would be a strong parallel to the other two third entries.
Actually, I like that idea. I'm sure that's not the case, but it would be cool if that were true.Sounds to me like the titles are supposed to run together... The Force Awakens the Last Jedi...

Wow, Luke's Jedi return really sucked, didn't it? It largely ended before the next Episode, and now it's just about gone entirely.

This title is just as ambiguous for the same reason. Jedi is spelled the same way singular or plural. "The Last Jedi" could be just Luke or Luke and Rey. Also "last" does not just mean something ending. It can mean previous, as in the past tense. "Previously on the last episode of Star Wars Rebels" Would not mean the series finale!
The Last Jedi. Luke Skywalker. This to me suggests that Luke will make Rey into something else. The Jedi Way is not the way forward, but is stagnate in the past and the last time Luke tried to rebuild it, his own nephew betrayed him and killed everyone else. So no...their needs to be something else to move the Force forward. Something more than that light side only Jedi. There needs to be balance in the Force.
My first thought was "Ehhh, again with this "last Jedi" theme? Luke was the last Jedi after Yoda died (after Order 66 wiped them all out), he started another Jedi Temple, Ben Solo became a whiny emo kid and killed everyone, so here we are yet again, with the Jedi all but gone. How many times can Star Wars go down this route?
And then after thinking a few minutes, I liked it. Yoda called Luke the last Jedi in ROTJ. So if Episode VIII is about Luke, it makes sense.

That would be an interesting concept. Maybe Luke in his solitude has realised that the true way forward is not to have the Jedi be the Light Side facing the servants of the Dark Side, be they Sith or Knights of Ren, but perhaps some new way that combines both. After all, in his last confrontation with Vader Luke was able to harness the Dark Side but not fall to it, and there has been speculation that perhaps Qui-Gon and Mace were also more receptive to a similar philosophy.
