But these people getting upset at someone on the internet cos someone thinks fan films are shit shows how easily offended some people really are.

You're getting the reaction simply because you've been, shall we say, every bit less than cordial with fellow TrekBBS members. Of course, responding to you like this probably means I'm a "delicate" little snowflake now. Oh how will I ever live with myself?

And with this settlement my work here is done. Just one more duty to perform.

Did someone say, "Cash"?

Neil

I love you, Neil.

Omg! I've been so incredibly polite by not suggesting anyone actually take a peek at those horridly done photo shops you been pushing on this fan site for years.
My god man, I can understand why you're so bitter at us. So many hours of hard work put into them and so little attention. Yes I can see why we must cry but not for us.

Oh dear,

Who is this "us" you are now supposedly speaking on behalf of ?
Who is this "us" that you think I am supposedly bitter at ?
This is news to me. I was not aware I had an issue with this site..

You are like a hurt little child who has taken offence and got offended cos I had the audacity to say I think fan films are shit, you act like someone who is personally offended. Did you make a shit fan film that got little feedback which has led to resentment in you ?
So in retaliation of me mocking others work, you respond my mocking mine, how very adult of you.
I did not realize I hurt you so much. Feel free to knock my work all you like as much as you like, as unlike you, I won't get upset by your opinion.
:guffaw::guffaw:

I love you, Neil.

I was not aware that so many people would get upset with my opinion on fan films.
It was an off the cuff remark, but my true feelings nonetheless.

We already had one member on here actually tell me the words i should have used to give my own opinion....how mental is that.
Others in their childlike mind respond by slating my work as if that somehow means my own opinion is somehow wrong and fan films are suddenly better.

On the issue of what next for Axanar, any hopes I had for the "movie" was dead when the court case started and no resolution will change anything now.

I await the hint-dropping and winking - hey, I know what's in the settlement and you don't, neener cubed, that sort of thing. And then something will leak and we'll find out the settlement involved chainsawing a tree on some backwater planet while wearing war paint and ritually chanting.
 :bolian:

Well, I guess you haven't realized, that you're commenting within the Fan Production section instead of The Neutral Zone. ;)

Key thing to note - the responses to you were based on the content of your post, not about you. No one was upset, as you put it (using language that aims to diminish or dismiss the justified criticism over your posts' content). Your first reactions to the criticisms was to get seemingly defensive, and instantly go after the poster, not their posts. I underline the choice words: upset, mental, childlike. That is why you're facing criticism now, for your insulting attitude, couched in a cloud of "hey, I was just speaking my mind, be tolerant of my intolerance."

Honestly, I never checked.
I dont take notice of sections, I see what new threads are there click on the ones that I think will interest me and comment if I have something to say.
In hindsight could I have been more tactful, yes, but those upset by my initial posts also need to learn not to get upset anytime someone says something they dont like.

You came here because it's a hot topic with a lot of views. Like any good salesperson would do.
Concerning your ability to upset us with your literary skills, well let's just say we have seen many incarnations of your methods. Don't mistake our going along with your game as upset. You call our work shit, we take umbrage, you run along a tell your friends what a masterful job you preformed, we smile and every body is happy.
Have a nice day.

Have you just decided to be the spokesperson for everyone ?
Who is this "we" you speak of ?
You admit you took umbrage to my comments on your work and it upset you, and how did you respond ? by knocking my work.
It dont bother me, however do you not see the contradictions and hypocrisy in that ?.

The following is Peters' full email message to donors.

Also, according to the terms of the settlement agreement, there are still some legal details that require our immediate attention over the next sixty days. These aren't major issues, but they are the first things we have to check off our list
Right. So we've learned, or more appropriate *I've learned* :) , lots about (regarding this thread's topic):
Before it's filed.... as in one doesn't always just threaten to sue, then sue. Sometimes one gets organized, clear on the direction and end game preferred.... then files it, in this case, then end of December 2015. (I don't remember the filing date anymore)

After filing.... plaintiff & defense start communicating with each other informally. To sorta get the lay of the land, feel out the situation, see if litigants can come to an early solution.

Then (if not before) evvverryyybody get's a lawyer.

Around then the judge is assigned the case?

Paperwork begins; motions of various natures I think it was.

The judge says 'Get this settled before going to trial' and settlement talks officially begin.

Motions, rulings, more motions, more talks, more... everything.

Eventually in this case a settlement is made..... with prejudice attached. So no appeals. This is it.

Okay, so now we've come to
Also, according to the terms of the settlement agreement, there are still some legal details that require our immediate attention over the next sixty days. These aren't major issues, but they are the first things we have to check off our list

What 'kinds' of legal details 'might' be being addressed now?

Why would they take maybe or maybe up to sixty days to be completed?

What's possibly happening now in this after part of the settlement?

I got curious and checked. Your linked blog has a large gallery of photoshopped naked Star Trek actors. That's creepy as fuck and if thats the gold standard of your 'work', it deserves everything coming to it.

I'd comment on the rest but the internets filled with more than enough people trying to justify why they're a dick to everyone. Which, I suppose, links to....

....has anyone heard form the Lord himself on his reactions? I try to avoid the social media nonsense, but I can't help but be curious if his megaphones been turned on yet.

Surely this thread is here to stay, isn't it? Whatever Alec Peters does next will be intrinsically linked to the lawsuit anyway so it seems unnecessary to start a new thread in the forum to me.

Maybe for once, let's talk about the creative aspect of Axanar.

As I'm not emotionally involved in it in any way, here's the part I don't get. If I remember correctly, the kickstarters already collected enough money to fully fund the first segment of the film, which is what they originally aimed for: shoot it in segments. The script got some flak for not being up to standards (of course, it's still a fan film), so that problem should be gone as well, as it has to go through some major rewrites now. What remains is a truckload of money, a second shot at a good script, some professional actors with a background in ST, access to the intelectual property and usage rights. I've seen amazing indie sf-films being produced on much, much less than that (look up A-list directors' first short films on youtube, e.g. Neil Blomkamp or Gareth Edwards). So if there is any talent involved here, the outcome should be amazing. If not, then not.

I know the new guidelines suck for New Voyages and others who were trying to recreate whole episodes in a 40-minute format. There is no set format for Axanar, so it doesn't really apply here. If TPTB call for two 15-minute segments, so be it. It might very well strengthen the narrative, as they can now focus on the main themes and ideas without diluting it with bad filler material. Prelude was, in my opinion, a great fan film that would have lost its appeal had it been longer. So why not just go ahead and shoot part 2 and 3 in the same format?

What remains is a truckload of money

Thats the big problem they have to face; they don't have any money left. the financial summery submitted to the court showed they raised over $1.4 Million, but spent $1.5.

The only way forward is for Peters to either dip into his pockets, which he has been claiming are very deep pockets, and finish what he started or go back to the well and rattle a tin again; which might be a daunting prospect considering after this much raised, there's still not even a finished set to show for it.

Out of curiousity....
....I know how much it costs to make a low-rent indie/fan film here in Glasgow. How much would it cost in LA? I'm not talking a full on multi-staffed crew with one of every role on hand, but complete, stripped down bare bones project - you know, like actual, traditional fan films.

I'd assume equipment might be cheaper to rent (there's more of it there than there is here!), and there's a few other costs they can ditch (film students, and - for the absolute bare bones basic, cheapness, there's a lot of freebie software you can edit with and get good (well, good enough results) with a bit of patience.
