Discovery starts shooting on January 24th

I have no sources for this post other than a friend I have who works in the Toronto film industry and this person says that Star Trek has booked the massive Pinewood stage for the next 5 years.

I'm sure it means first day of shooting.

The 24th is a Tuesday; shooting on a lot of projects start on Tuesdays.

Tuesday morning you block the cast for final rehearsals and rewrites. Cameras start rolling after lunch. Wednesday morning you have some script adjustments, thursday is filming again, then let's break for the weekend!

I'm guessing seasons 1 and 2 back to back filming, with pickups for S2 next winter.

Makes sense. Even if DSC is axed after 2 seasons (hopefully not) having the space leased gives them the option of running another trek show with minimal pre-production. I would imagine that the DSC creative team would have a spinoff show treatment and bible ready at this point.

This is either a person starting a rumor or key information. A 5-year commitment means Netflix expects 5-7 years of Trek (even though they may finish shooting it in 5 years.) This could also be a CBSAA long-term pricing strategy prospect. In say 2-3 years they will have locked in Trek fans in USA to subscriptions and grow their subscribers during Trek 3-4 month period. This is why I think season 2 would start in less than say 8 months after season 1 ends.

Sorry, I was unclear. "It" as in the show is there, "it" as in the commencement date for production is no longer there.

DSC keeps feeling (to me) like a show that's never going to happen. Like, CBS will sink a ton of money into this and then one day it will be five years later with no sign of the show, and somebody will ask the network what happened and they'll have forgotten that they were ever producing it.

So, your saying CBS will turn into Axanar Productions? Really?

When "STAR TREK:THE NEXT GENERATION" was in preproduction, David Gerrold had a monthly column in "Starlog" magazine following the development. "Entertainment Tonight" had segments.

There was anticipation & enthusiasm.

The silence on "DISCOVERY" Is deafening. And it's not helping.
