the premiere date on CBS in May

I was thinking of the premiere date on CBS linear channel network and then CBS AA start of the DSC episodes.

In May the Nielsen rating sweeps period is April 27-May 24, 2017. DSC will premiere during May 1-24 to get in that ratings sweeps.

CBSAA 1st original series The Good Wife spinoff show The Good Fight will premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 on CBS network. It is possible they will do a Sunday night but figure 2 hours for DSC premiere.

2 hour premiere at 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM local time start?
I think it is a low risk for CBS network for this hyped up premiere so they will put it in a slot where they have 2 hours one night not on a Friday. So not May 5,12,19

Not Sunday May 21:
Showtime is pushing their new original production of season 3 of
Twin peaks revival (season 3) will be on
Showtime on May 21 at 9 PM with a two-hour premiere, Showtime president David Nevins announced at the top of the network’s TCA session today. Immediately after the premiere, episodes 3 and 4 will also be made available on Showtime’s digital platform.
Except for the Episode 3 and 4’s early release, the show will essentially air weekly, because Lynch believes in weekly TV, Nevins said, adding that the series will have a global launch around the world
forgot source Jan.2017
So I will say DSC will not be premiering on a Sunday May 21 since Showtime is owned by Viacom CBS's partner.

It'll be somewhere between Sunday-Thursday, with The Big Bang Theory leading in.

Now delayed from May, and unlikely to burn it off during a summer season where they won't get as big an impact. I'm calling September 6th... ;)

They could still air the premier episode in May, and the rest of the show whenever...

Just going off of their quote saying that May wasn't happening, so I'm assuming... May isn't happening

Nothing is written in stone as to a Spring or Summer premiere.
There may be a delay in the scheduled May launch of Star Trek: Discovery, the upcoming new series for CBS All Access, CBS’ live streaming and VOD service.
This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show.
The network is not confirming a move from the scheduled May launch date, but notes there is more flexibility on timing given it is a streaming platform.
January 18 source
And remember the pilot can still be in May and the launch on CBSAA can be in June. Say May 25 Thursday before travel begins for the USA holiday Memorial Day on Monday May 29.
As Dodge mentions:
They could still air the premier episode in May, and the rest of the show whenever...
What if instead of the next week it launched 2 weeks later on CBSAA? That would still give more time for the other episodes to be finished. June-August is generally quieter for TV but Trek fans would still pay for a subscription and watch the show and this would still fall in Q2 of 2017 for subscriptions to start.
I cannot imagine season 1 would start after
July 20–23 San Diego Comic-Con Comic-Con International 2017
or Aug. 2-6, 2017 - Star Trek Official Convention - Las Vegas
It is almost imperative that season 1 be finished before the big promotional push of SDCC and the big Las Vegas Star Trek Official Convention as they are used for trailers and special screenings. I would imagine they would be pushing special features for the blu-ray of season 1 at Star Trek Official Convention.

I thought the latest date was slated as September now?
Please quote a source. Delayed is delayed but when CBS releases a statement like:
The network is not confirming a move from the scheduled May launch date, but notes there is more flexibility on timing given it is a streaming platform.
then it looks good when it starts the show before June. If anyone has a source for September specifically please link.
I would guess they are not going to give a new date until April 2017.

It was originally going to be January with filming starting November, then we had the news it would onyl start filming this month with a planned May release. Another thread here gave further delays with an unknown release date, September being a possible one two days ago.

There are that many threads and sites now it's difficult finding anything I was looking at even yesterday.

it may be a marketing bump from DSC promotion that Ubisoft is looking for but this date may tell us something.

Ubisoft's Star Trek virtual realitygame, Bridge Crew, is not coming out in March as expected. The publisher announced today that the PlayStation 4 and PC game is now slated to arrive on May 30.
So June for the TV show?

Also if you were interested in VR Enterprise :
In addition to announcing the delay, Ubisoft confirmed today that the crew from "Star Trek: The Original Series" will be playable in Bridge Crew. The famous USS Enterprise ship will be in the game, alongside the new one created specifically for the title, the USS Aegis.
The Enterprise crew will be available in the game's Ongoing Voyages mode. In this mode, you play randomized missions; it supports solo and co-op play.

I don't think the UBISOFT game delay has anything to do with Discovery. Do not expect Discovery until fall/winter

Just going by a similar production (The Expanse).

13 Episodes (Season 2) - Production began in May or June 2016, first episode aired in February 2017

So for DSC, eight months since the start of production, I'm guestimating September / October 2017

They ought to be about halfway through principal photography for the first season by the end of May.
