Discovery starts shooting on January 24th

I hope we know all the actors soon then and that things like the uniforms and looks of the aliens leak.

So why shooting until September 7? And from January 24 to the series premiere in May 31 we already have about 20 weeks of shooting that should be more than enough for the first season of 13 episode in a TV series. So my guess are:
- they will be shooting season 1 as season 2 as well for an earlier release for season 2 (maybe January 2018?)
- there will be a longer hiatus in the shooting so we will have a season broken in 2, like 6 and 7 episodes or something.
I think CBS AA has plans for when season 2 premieres unless Netflix has dictated they must have so many episodes in 2018 which maybe season 2 and 3 are both in that calendar year.
I don't think they will be shooting season 1 and 2 back to back but i think they will use feedback from season 1 and San Diego Comic Con in July 2017 promotion and Las Vegas Star Trek convention in August 2017 for season 2.

January 24 through September 7 is about 32 weeks of shooting, enough time to shoot a full 26-episode Star Trek season back in the days. It does look like they are planning to shoot two seasons of DIS back to back. That, or they're planning for a really relaxed shooting pace!

Yeah, but if they have a very relaxed shooting pace than we will get season 1 split in 2 parts or they will postpone the May premiere date.

Standard production cycle for a 1-hour episode is 8 shooting days, though these days a lot of shows mix it up depending on the needs of their specific production, if they have to block shoot for locations or whatever. I know TNG did 7 day shoots, which is impressive.

But assuming 8 shoot days a show, that has them wrapping ep 13 in June sometime.

I'm not too familiar with the particulars of the IATSE contract, but I wonder if Sep 7 is just when the annual contract expires? It might be that whenever you start with them, the agreement runs until the next Sep 7, at which point you have to refresh the paperwork and become signatory to the new contract, if you are going to continue production beyond that.

EDIT: nope, I'm totally wrong! Went to the IATSE website and they have different wrap dates for all the shows listed there. Well, that is strange then.

This is not political, but the thread title brought to mind that infamous quip by Reagan for some reason: "We begin bombing in five minutes"...

Tells you a little about my mind.

Apparently Discovery is pushed back again. I hope it doesn't become a fall series. If I had my druthers I would like to see it premiere in July. Still keep it a summer show but away from all the Fall shows. And I just got into Arrow so I'm watching 3 of the four D.C. Shows during the fall season.

DSC keeps feeling (to me) like a show that's never going to happen. Like, CBS will sink a ton of money into this and then one day it will be five years later with no sign of the show, and somebody will ask the network what happened and they'll have forgotten that they were ever producing it.

Since Netflix gave them a ton of money(actually all the money) to make the show, somebody will probably be knocking on the door way before the five years is up. ;)
