Brexit-will it affect Doctor Who-or has it already?

So what's the thought process here re:Trump? Is the idea that the US economy will drop affecting overseas sales?

The ban, in particular, could prove troubling with a companion from that area, especially considering her role on Eastenders. It's unfortunate, but it's just what I've read and heard. These are sensitive times, to put it lightly, and the BBC, especially with the rating issues this past season, do not want to provoke a controversy.

Moran's tweet is the funniest, though. But yeah, absolutely stupid thing to have happened. To quote Peter Davison, it seems Britain learned nothing from being in the EU for all those years.

It is revealed that Starship UK didn't leave Earth due to Solar Flares, that was just a cover story. Really, it left Earth as the ultimate Brexit.

Well, I'm sure they're breathing a sigh of relief now that they didn't cast Rakhee....would've lost the American audience.

Doctor Who long pre-dates the European Union. It wasn't until 1973 that Britain even joined the Common Market.

Eh, that article is a non-starter. It's a year and a half old and Farage was talking about entertainment on BBC in general. He's in no position now to cause any change.

Unless, ... Farage is the reason there was no new series in 2016.

DA-DA-DUMMM.

Doctor Who has usually managed to slip some political commentary into their stories. The ecological message in The Green Death, worker relations in Monster Of Peladon, overbearing taxation and corporate greed in The Sunmakers.

Not sure what to think of ideas of US imports of Who being effected though. However, as Downton Abbey had to kill the dog Isis due to political sensibilities where some people believed they were actually supporting Islamic State I wouldn't be surprised.

Given Archer hasn't been taken off the air because he works for ISIS I doubt that's the case. I thought Isis died in Downton simply by virtue of time passing (in show) meaning the (fictional) dog would be very old?

There was a social media storm about the BBC being ISIS supporters because of the dog's name, probably from idiots who don't realise the name existed for thousands of years before Islamic State did. My understanding was the dog's death was always planned during the show, but it may have been brought forward slightly because of this, so perhaps I over-stated the "had to" part.

I never watched it, but wasn't Downton on ITV and not the BBC? So why would a competing broadcaster have a "social media storm" over something they didn't make, nor showed.

And to be honest, the only real way leaving the EU will have an affect on BBC Productions is a reduction in the Licence Fee and less money to spend, although they may go the Night Manager route and have it co-funded even more with production companies from other countries when it comes to Doctor Who.
