Being that they've just recently released the original Star trek Animated Series, something I have an affection for, I was wondering if anyone knew about any attempts since to launch another trek animated series, it seems odd with the franchise's continued success especially with the movies that another was never attempted?!

Would people like to see a new Star Trek animated series or movie now and what form would you like that to take if so?

If it was done well, I'd love to see it. My hope would be that it retains the same sense of adventure and intrigue that TAS had and doesn't become just another dumbed-down action cartoon like my kids -- much to my dismay -- constantly gravitate toward.

I think there would be questions about who its audience should be. I wouldn't mind seeing something like TAS again -- but that's barely a kid's show, tbh. I think there would be value in getting kids to watch Star Trek, not only for their sake but for the franchise's continued strength.

There have been proposals. I think one was a CGI series continuing TOS. Frankly, I'm waiting for a CGI remastered version of TAS, but nonetheless. There was also Star Trek: Final Frontier, which was interesting but never done.

An animated series set in Kelvin timeline with the movie crew could work. Have a tone similar to Batman The Animated Series and have some sort of ongoing arc like a lot of kids shows are doing now. They could even do some updated versions of some TOS episodes if the message was still topical. They could easily make an episode similar to Balance of Terror, but focus more on the crewmember upset over Vulcans looking like Romulans, thinking that Spock might be a traitor.

Had no idea about the final frontier animation @Emperor Norton just looked into it, sounds interesting but maybe a bit ahead of its time with the web series angle, at least to do it successfully. I genuinely think an animated trek show as @A Shiny Kaylee Christmas says in the Batman Bruce Timm style tradition would be awesome and be a helpful tool bridging a gap for the kids to really get into the franchise.

Maybe they could have a brand new crew, with cameo voice actors from the live action shows. Characters like Worf or Janeway could be featured in relatively un-aged forms.

Yeah, I personally think a brand new crew would be the way to go so that the series wasn't restrained by any major ties to what's come before

An animated series, while possible, would need to straddle between adult interest and children's interest. Something like the Star Wars CGI shows have done. I don't think Janeway would particularly interest kids.

I can't believe they haven't already gone down this route. I'd do one for the Enterprise E.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that animated would be a good way to bring back the TNG actors at this point. You could probably get Seth MacFarlane involved (in serious mode ala Cosmos).

Heck, do a "Saturday Morning Action Pack"; 10 minutes for one story, 10 minutes for another, 5 minutes for another. That way, you could shove in anything TOS, or TNG, or anthology one shots.

Yep. I thought that the 50th anniversary was the perfect time to put out TAS-R. Using the audio from TAS and expand them to an hour with William Shatner and the surviving cast members reprising their roles. Get actors of today to play the guest starring roles, with original series music, etc. Also use the audio from the computers games from the 90s (25th anniversary, Judgement Rites and Secret of Vulcan Fury) and make the final two years of the original 5 year mission. I still think that would be a great idea for CBS All Access.

No offense, but that sounds like a project only a hardcore fanboy could love, rather then something with board appeal. Rather then trying to splice together audio from the 70s and 90s with audio today (which sounds like an editing disaster and not a good model to tell new stories), just make a new cartoon, with a new cast and a new audio track.

Well cartoons today are far sophisticated today then they were in the 70s.

I have never seen it, but I heard Steven Universe deals with gender identity issues. Something like Voltron 2016 is a sci fi show that blends good character moments with sci fi action, Young Justice blended super hero action with good character moments and an ongoing story, etc.

I think you do a decent Star Trek show aimed at kids, just have it be a blend of comedy and more serious elements.

Sure, give the project to Genndy Tartakovsky or Peter Chung. Go with a fresh ship and a new cast of characters in a very far away location. Show aliens that are really alien, not just a human with a piece of rubber stuck on their nose or forehead. If it was handled properly, I think it could be entertaining.

^Yes, just imagine if they fully took advantage of the use of animation?!

So hell to the yes. Either an original or new crew just so long as it was interesting, good and had a clear vision of what it wanted to be really.
