This upcoming four-disc collection spans the entire prime Star Trek universe, from the Original Series to Star Trek: Enterprise, touching on a few Trek films, and some unexpected sources like the now-closed Las Vegas Star Trek: The Experience adventures “Klingon Encounter” and “Borg Invasion 4D”, along with the Star Trek: Borg PC game music previously released in 2013’s Star Trek: Music from the Video Games soundtrack..

Most surprising, though, is the inclusion of more than 30 minutes of music from Star Trek: The Animated Series, long though lost to time!
Our very own @Indysolo posted a few more details here:

Also of note:
DISC ONE features cues from the original, classic STAR TREK TV series (most of which were released on our TOS BOX SET, but have been sourced from newly discovered elements)

DISC TWO showcases the official world premiere release of music from STAR TREK: THE ANIMATED SERIES, the beloved 70’s Filmation TV series, as well as original STAR TREK-inspired compositions from Ron Jones, and STAR TREK BORG, a score by Dennis McCarthy from an interactive 1996 movie/computer game.

DISC THREE features previously unreleased scores from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, including such episodes “Coming of Age,” “The Hunted,” “Tapestry” and more, as well as the series’ trailer music.

DISC FOUR contains more unreleased THE NEXT GENERATION, including “Deja Q,” “Elementary, Dear Data,” and others, as well as unreleased demo tracks from DEEP SPACE NINE, and VOYAGER, original score from the famed Las Vegas attraction, STAR TREK: THE EXPERIENCE, and still more!

I talked about the TAS score in the other thread, so...

What the heck are "music stems," first of all?

And what are the Ron Jones "inspired by" tracks from?

What the heck are "music stems," first of all?
Neil can probably give a more detailed answer but it's basically the final assembled music tracks for a production. It might be several submixes of various elements. For orchestral recordings and soundtracks I'm not sure how it would break down, though.

In this case all Neil might have had would have been the edited final mixes from the actual episodes, and not submixes of different instrument groups. He did say it was hard. :p

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_mixing_and_mastering

Stems are the final edited and mixed audio elements, broken down into the individual dialogue, music and effects components. For this release I only focussed on the music stem, which was heavily edited and had major volume fluctuations.

Neil

Nice set. Some interesting highlights, new material by Ron Jones, and one of the cues I requested, made the set.

I have to admit though. I'm baffled by the Animated Series music love. I tried to like something, anything from that long youtube video of scoring, but alas I couldn't find a single cue.

I love just about all of it. but taste is subjective. It's very non-specific, made to cover general incidents, like all library music is, but I always loved it as a kid. Often, it was part of the music I'd hum while playing with my Mego action figures on the bridge playset.

I'm really excited to hear this, and happy to see that some of my suggestions made the set! And kudos to Neil for what must have been a nightmare audio edit on the TAS cues.

A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

Fans waiting for La-La Land’s Star Trek: 50th Anniversary Collection will not have to wait much longer. The limited-edition four-CD set will...

Thanks for that. I had some idea but now I know.

Lukas says that this was an insane effort. Amazing!

I try to watch myself to tell if I love something because it's nostalgia or if I would enjoy it if I found it new. I've decided that TAS music is genuinely terrific. I think part of why some people have such a negative reaction to it is 1) it's pretty 70's and 2) there's only 30 minutes over 10+ hours of show.

But WOW I love it. I'm buying the TAS disc with a bonus of TMP, TWOK, and the missing tracks from TOS. The rest is FREE!

It was. I wound up with a routine of working on one episode a day. If I did anymore I'd go insane.

Neil

I haven't even heard it yet and I love it. Thanks for all of your hard work in getting this music out at last. You are seriously one of my Trek Music Heroes.

You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words. Enjoy the set!

I ordered at about 2 minutes after noon (pacific) on Tuesday and got an email Wednesday that my copy had shipped. With luck, I'll have it Friday or Saturday. I'm not excited or anything...
