Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

He grabbed another cape to hunt down Leia. The first one got a little too dirty slaughtering the Rebels of Rogue One to be presentable to a Galactic Senator.
This cape is for slaughtering and this one is for politics. Try not to confuse the two.

I always thought it strange how people would point to the differences in Vader's costume as continuity errors. I always pictured him having racks and racks of spare parts and cloaks. We saw something similar with this in TCW's 'Lair of Grevious'. Part of my wonders if Vader has a place like that for himself.

I recall the EU had him own a castle, complete with statues of himself in the courtyard. That idea never sat right with me. Vader grew up in a hovel, and spent his adolescent years either in the temple or on the move with Obi-Wan. He's used to a spartan, almost nomadic lifestyle and trapped in that suit, surrounding himself with opulence seems both pointless and out of character.

His personal ship is probably the closest thing he has to a home and I do like that they gave him a black chrome J-25 nubian in the new comics. There's a certain terrible poetry to that.

Anakin had a pretty big ego. But he seems the type to no have things he doesn't use. A few ships, some droids, and probably a pressurized room he could relax in without the majority of his suit would be all he'd require most of the time. His ships would be for different uses, much like his few ships he had during the Clone War (his fighter, his regular transport, his "junker" transport, and perhaps another not so junky transport that is still clearly not Republic/Imperial (the Nubian would suit that purpose). The droids would most be to help him with the suit, cleaning, and probably a sparring droid.

He might have holocrons to increase his knowledge of the Force, but really, what do we know of the Dark Lord of the Sith and what he does with his free time...if he has any.

I imagine most of is free time is spent meditating/seething. Honestly, I doubt Palpatine would allow him access to any Sith holocrons. Those things are dangerous and the Emperor would need to keep Vader on a very short leash or at least pre-occupied. Either with his ongoing Jedi hunt or training his Inquisitors.

I would honestly expect him to be scheeming against the Emperor to replace him. Even with The Apprentice/Starkiller removed from canon, the newer comics establish that Vader is forging his own connections and resources outside Imperial oversite or control. Which is rather funny to me, given that Anakin fought to destroy the droid army and ends up trying to develop one for his own uses.

The Emperor would give Vader just enough knowledge of the Force to suit his purposes. Vader, likewise, would conceal any usful information garnered in his travels to himself for future use.

^I think that's true after ANH, once he discovers Luke is out there, but in the 19 year period between then and RotS I don't think Vader had any such intention. No long term plans or ambitions at all except hunting down the last remaining Jedi.
Remember that Anakin never sought power for power's sake. He sought to protect and control the people he cared about. I think in this period (which by far makes up the majority of his life as Vader) he doesn't care about anyone anymore. He hates the Emperor almost as much as he hates himself, but I don't see him having any interest in running an Empire.

I disagree. Both ROTS and the novelization indicate that Anakin was already considering usurping the Emperor. Even with Padme gone, Anakin's self-loathing would turn on the Emperor, as he plots to expand his power. What else does Anakin have to live for but expand his power? Isn't that the ambition of all the Sith? Learn as much as you can, expand your power and then remove the competition?

I think that the loss of Padme would turn Anakin far more in to a power hungry individual, frustrated perhaps and more limited than before, but no less desiring of power. The Death Star might represent a tool to undermine the Emperor as well, so I could see Anakin playing a long game, and willing to go along until this time was right, or until the Emperor no longer proved useful.

And the Emperor knows this, which is why I agree with him not showing the holocrons, as a part of concentrating his power. Most of the comics, even recent ones, have shown the Emperor entertaining many other alternatives to Vader.

Yes, we know for a fact he had the notion to overthrow Palpatine almost as soon as he became Vader, but I think that desire died with Padme. As I said, Anakin's interest in power was only ever to protect what he loved and by the end of RotS, everyone he loved or cared about was either dead or (from his POV) turned on him. He had nothing left to care about. He wouldn't hate Palpatine any less, but he wouldn't be under any illusions that he could get out from under the Emperor's thumb. He's trapped and he knows it.

This is reflected in the recent Vader comic. When he reveals to the Emperor some of what he'd been up to with all the double dealings and machinations, Palpatine's reaction could be characterised as "Well it's about bloody time! You've been fumbling along without purpose for years now!" Also, hence Palpatine looking to replace Vader, or at least prod him into action with the implied threat of being replaced. After all, a dispassionate Sith Lord is a weak Sith Lord and Sidious can't have his apprentice growing weak on him.

Again though, I think this is something that doesn't get rekindled until after ANH. I can see him harbouring the idle thought of "one day" killing Palaptine and taking the throne, but it was just that: an idle fantasy. It's not until Luke enters his awareness does he actually start to take the notion seriously again.

Well they FINALLY announced pre-sale dates for Rogue One.

I got an email from IMAX this morning stating they go on sale Monday 11/28 at 12:01AM EST. I guess that means Sunday night at 9:01 for those of us on the Left Coast. There were no other times given.

My son and I will be going on Saturday.

This better be good, Damnit!

:scream:

I am not going to go nuts getting IMAX tickets this time around. I'll save that mess for the next Roman numeral Star Wars.
The "story" versions can be enjoyed at my local theater.

I got vertigo the last (and only) time I went to an IMAX screening.

Like 3D (headaches), it's just not for me.

I'm more than happy with a nice crisp digital presentation on a regular screen.

Hugo - standard, regular, no grande venti special edition here

lmao, people are complaning about the X-Wing taking down the AT-ACT.

Well for one thing, it isn't the same as an AT-AT from ESB, and two the X-Wing shot it in the neck, which is a weak point.

I hope Witwer makes it into one of the live action movies at some point. He's a huge Star Wars fan and he's already done a ton of voice work for the shows and video games. (Can't remember if he also did mocap for The Force Unleashed, I want to say he did.)

He did provide some voices in Episode 7
