CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Just a thought, could a public representative sue Peters and Axanar for misusing donated funds? Could they be facing a lawsuit on two sides? That would be fun

If only he actually made the film he promised to make, this whole thing could have been prevented. Now, all he will be remembered for is a con artist who almost ruined treks 50th anniversary. Somehow I don't think it was worth it.

It's like l suggested upthread a bit........not only is LFIM not the sharpest crayon in the box, I don't think any of his surrogates (Lane, RMB, whoever else........) are as well. To me, Lane appears to have forgotten to 'look before he lept' so to speak.......making his own moves without considering the ramifications (doubt he did this with LFIM's blessing)


Terry came up with some good 'fan art' for this phase of the whole mess as well.......(anyone got an 'Axabiotic' to get rid of that redness?)

No, one of the court docs mentioned something to the contrary

"Further, Mr. Peters' company, Propworx, is housed in the studio facility that was rented and built out using funds from Star Trek fans. Propworx has not paid any rent to Axanar Productions for its use of this facility."

I'm trying to verify or dismiss an intimation made on Twitter that the defendant had said on social media the prop company was paying rent which the tweeter juxtaposed against the same quoted document you found. Without finding confirmation such a statement was made anywhere, for me I mean, the tweet has no credibility to me so becomes 'anti-' rhetoric noise that I feel I should dismiss at this time. I'll file it as unconfirmed 'data'. Which I will pull out again if something confirmable shows up.

Failed crowdfundings have from time to time been pursued by consumer protection agencies in a few states. The whole subject matter looks very ripe for a test case of serious ripoff as a way for some agency to step in and define regulations.

California has a consumer protection section of their govt. There is hope that this group may have a look. Donors need to demand it.

There's also been some talk that at the Federal level there could be interest (FTC, I think), and one would not hear about it until they announced their action.
 
Well, I guess the release of financial testimony (IE what Alec actually spent Pledge/Donor money on) by his own Legal team is getting to Alec Peters and I'm sure at this point W&S (and poor Ms. Erin Ranahan) are popping antacids like crazy.

It's essentially the same stuff he sent in an Update to Axanar KS Backers as well as spammed repeatedly in the comments section of the Axanar KS page. As such, this analysis of that statement probably says it best:

I guess what I still don't understand is all the support posts he's receiving on the comments section of his Blog. But I suppose that's how he keeps getting money; from people who have zero ability to perform any real critical thinking or to bother checking other sources/sworn to documents/or Peters own previous comments where he was DEFENDING taking a salary for himself, etc.

Just f**king amazing (and sad).
 
^^^The above also fits a rough pattern certain people have made note of - when things are going especially bad, LFIM or one of his surrogates will instigate some unrelated stuff (like the RMB doxxing thing) and LFIM himself will flail around a bit in order to deflect attention and cast himself as the ever-present victim/pariah.

the US is a young country, lacking many hundreds of years of experience with demagogues and warmongers and wanna-be kings which would cultivate wariness of being massively exploited.

Somehow I think Axanar could not have happened in many other parts of the world. It would have gotten polite indifference by a populace who has no grounds to trust the speaker.

This is not intended as politics. Just observing why there should be such gullibility going on with crowdfunding in this era and location.

There was an FTC workshop on crowdfunding several weeks ago. Check out the video starting around 20 minutes. Around 44 minutes, FTC attorney Helen Wong noted she could not comment on cases they may be bringing. But I know for a fact she's been made aware of Axanar. *whistles nonchalantly*
