I like this thread... it's all shouty and angsty and exciting.
Only in America could Obama's policies be considered "left" at all, never mind "far left".Dismissing policies that endeavour to treat all people decently and don't promote division and discord as "leftist" and therefore wrong is pretty sad, but evidently division and discord is what some Americans want for their country. That's beyond sad.
It is, I find it incredible how any person would vote against it.
An absolute basic fundamental human right, regardless of race, creed, colour, sexual orientation, is to be treated fairly, isn't it ?
Yet we have millions of people voting against that and on top of that we have people gloating that liberals and lefties are a thing of the past.
It's hearbreaking.

The path towards the right large swathes of humanity has taken in the last few years is truly saddening.
Ultimately we all live on one bigass rock floating through space yet the divisions and hatred that exists in our tiny world would have any watching alien race hedge their bets we were all of the same species.
Such people are Star Trek fans because they delude themselves the Federation is a right wing dictatorship run by angry white human males OR Star Trek is their version of a horror movie, the idea of humanity getting its shit together and treating each other as equals terrifies them and yet they kept watching...
I think it's unfair to blame white women for this. The Democrats as a whole are really to blame. They got behind a neocon darling of Wall Street who doesn't care about the little people and has a husband that has a history of sexually assaulting women. Despite all the obvious warning signs, they did nothing to ensure they had a solid candidate that espoused actual Democratic Party values. Someone like that would have probably buried Trump.
You could certainly blame one white woman...
So instead people voted for the billionaire who does not care about the little people -- especially the non-white ones -- and has a history of sexually assaulting women. I totally understand now.
He was going to get those votes no matter what - Democrats have been applying those traits to republicans for ages now, while claiming they are the ones that are for minorities and equal treatment of women.
So really it's incredible when you think about how many women and minorities actually voted for Trump. Clinton was just that unappealing, the smart ones saw right through her and the others just blindly accepted it while shouting down any constructive criticism being thrown her way.
Get a Biden in there, he probably would have won in a landslide.
Hopefully that's true when it comes to the current incarnation of liberals and lefties.

People tend to be very reductionist about their opponents. There are multiple reasons to have any given position.
For example, neo-nazis are against immigration. Trump is against immigration. Therefor Trump = neo-nazi

I've seen a lot of that sort of nonsense from the hysterics recently.
Prior to the primary, the polls showed Bernie performing better and more likely to win against Trump than Hillary.
I've seen no serious indication that Trump has changed many of his positions that he had when he was a Democrat (11 minutes ago).
While I'll be sorry to see Republicans twisting in knots to defend these positions, I wonder if Democrats will oppose them just because he's Trump? I think Trump is and was pretty isolationist. He and Sanders are on the same page in that regard.

The Associated Press has yet to officially call Michigan even though other agencies have already given its 16 electoral votes to Trump. The difference there is about 11,000 votes and while outstanding and absentee ballots might well shrink the difference I just don't see Hillary picking up anywhere near enough from the leftover ballots to win the state. Face it, Michigan just went Republican for the first time since 1988.
I think you got that one mixed up; ISIS supported Trump and celebrated his election.
