Spoilers Justice League Action Season 1

Since the show starts in just a couple weeks I thought I'd go ahead and start to a season thread for Justice League Action.
Justice League Action, DC's new animated JL series, will be premiering on Cartoon Network on November 27th. Each installment of the series will be 11 minutes long and will be focused on action and comedy. Popular voice actors Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy will be returning to voice The Joker and Batman respecively, alongside a cast of DC Comics veterans and new comers. As far as I can tell from the cast list on Wikipedia Hamill and Conroy are the only actors returning to roles they've played before. According to an interview CBR did with the producers during SDCC the show will feature 152 characters, with 60 superheroes, 40 villains, and the rest being supporting characters.
CBR has posted an article featuring three new clips from the show. It's definitely goofier than the DCAU shows and Young Justice, but it looks like it could be pretty fun to me. At least now we'll also have new Young Justice for a more serious take on the DCU to go along with this.

Not true -- we also have Josh Keaton reprising Hal Jordan (from Green Lantern: TAS), Khary Payton reprising Cyborg (from both CN incarnations of Teen Titans), Gilbert Gottfried reprising Mr. Mxyzptlk (from Superman: TAS), and Tara Strong reprising Harley Quinn (from the Arkham video games).

Worth a look, I guess. I wasn't wowed, but I wasn't turned off either.

But Mark Hamill has now reached the age where he's less able to sound like the DCAU Joker than Troy Baker is. I can tell why he retired from the role before, so I wonder why he came back to it.

OMG! OMG! I had no idea it was that close!!! I'm so excited!!! I just hope it's not kiddified and closer to the tone of Justice League Unlimited.

It's on Cartoon Network, so it's bound to be aimed at a younger demographic that their advertisers want to sell toys to. If CN still had the slightest interest in doing anything as mature as JLU, they wouldn't have cancelled Young Justice. I get the sense that it's more in the range of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, though maybe not quite as Silver-Agey.

After much shouting and back and forth over whether or not the show was coming back it is.

Weisman himself confirmed it's real.

The original voice actors will probably be back

But no network has been announced for it. Cartoon Network has nothing to do with its revival, so far as we know; the poster you showed mentions only WB Animation and DC Comics, and there isn't a word about Cartoon Network in the official announcement. WB decided to start making the show again because its reruns did well on Netflix. We don't know yet where it will air, but Netflix seems to be the most likely option.

My point is, if Cartoon Network had felt the show fit their demographics, they would not have cancelled it in the first place. They would've made season 3 several years ago.

We have a new trailer now.
I'm really confused because the article that lead me to start the thread said it premiered on Nov. 27th, but now this article says Dec. 16.
This article from the 22nd, which also reveals the description for the first episode, has both dates listed in different parts of the article.
I thought maybe it was an early "sneek peek" kind of thing they do some times, but TV Guide doesn't have it listed at all for the 27th.

I was confused myself. I wrote down in my planner 11/27. Then I'm looking for it on the schedule and can't find it anywhere and I'm freaking out. Then I read the article again more closely :guffaw:

The pilot synopsis at the first link

I'm excited to see Captain Marvel (even if he's called Shazam) getting in on the action early. But, they're using the voice for Cap/"Shazam" from the mostly bad New 52 based Direct to DVD movies. I hope they don't write their "Shazam" like the Direct to DVD movies do. If he's written well, this could be awesome. If not, its going to have a bad first impression with me.

Watched the 1st episode today of Justice League Action. Not sure i like the animation style and the episode was split into 2 separate stories. I'll give it another couple of episodes but not overly impressed from what i saw. Probably be similar to the Ben 10 reboot. Rushed plot with silly one liners

Yeah, this was extremely disappointing. Not even close to the level of JLU or Brave and the Bold.

Well, it took a while for both of those shows to really demonstrate their merits. I think they both got lukewarm responses when they first started out. At least, I wasn't too fond of the debut episode of either one (counting JLU separately from JL). But they proved themselves over time.

I was wary about the changes in JLU, after the great 2 and 3 part stories in JL, but with the unfolding story arcs in JLU, it rather made up for it. I still consider them the same show, however. It took me until the 3rd episode to really get the angle Brave and the Bold was going with, and after that, watching through the right filter, it became an instant classic in my eyes.

Even JL had a pretty rocky start. IMO it didn't really find it's footing until the three part season 1 finale 'The Savage Time', then season 2 came out swinging with 'Twilight' and didn't let up until 'Starcrossed'.
Before that, Batman Beyond was looked upon very sceptically as was the Superman series before it.

Really speaking, DC/WB animated shows have a surprisingly good track record. The only ones that didn't do it for me were 'The Batman' and the 'Titans Go!' series. The former seemed to suffer from an identity crisis, not knowing it it wanted to be dark and edgy or fun and light. The latter is more a question of my personal tastes combined with my perhaps being a little too attached to the old show's format. Which, ironically given my criticism of 'The Batman', did a good job of balancing the dramatic and the comedic elements.

All that said, the only thing about this new show that interests me so far is Conroy & Hamill's involvement. I'm more than willing to give it a chance though.
