    Howdy, folks.

This thread is intended as a place to post any odd Trek-related questions you may have, or observations/insights you'd like to share, that may not have enough meat on their bones to support a separate thread. This can include would-be threads whose entire opening posts consist of a single sentence or question. Going forward, new threads of that nature may be merged into this one at the discretion of the moderators.

Note, however, that content posted in this thread should still be content that would be posted in GTD. If your question or observation is very series-specific, then you may want to consider your options in the appropriate series forum.

    So...have at it!

Would you like to merge my Random LOLs thread here?

That would present the same problem...the posts would be chronological, so my introduction would be buried. Starting fresh.

But anything that would have gone there in future posts can now be posted here?

I bet NuTrek Scotty is sick of the "Scott of the Antarctic" jokes (Delta Vega is a cold, cold world...)

I've never cared for the painting in Spock's quarters from The Undiscovered Country.

As I understand it, Leonard Nimoy found that tapestry of the Vulcan IDIC from STAR TREK II to be very tacky and cheesy and didn't like it, at all. And yet ... Marc Chagall's childish-looking Adam et Eve Chasses du Paradis in a tacky frame isn't cheesy? Even preferable? OH! But it helps tie-in, so Spock can say, "it is a reminder to me that all things end" all sage-like and everything. Well, yeah, but ...

While we're on the subject of art, the sculpture that Worf has in his quarters of the two Klingons locked in a battle to the death is pretty awesome.

I seem to recall reading that was a sculpture that they actually bought somewhere and they put little ridges on the foreheads of the figures.

I've heard tell that Worf's statue of Kahless and Morath was once produced by Orlandi Statuary in Chicago, for a limited time. But I've not been able to verify ... to confirm ...

There is a lot of cool merchandise out there that kind of goes under the radar and we don't get to hear about it, because the market's inundated with Official STAR TREK kitsch like Pon Farr perfume, Mr. Spock cookie jars and Enterprise-shaped pizza cutters. But with skillful investigation, what's become available - past & present - can become known to you. There are a few self-styled "authorities" on STAR TREK prop reproductions on The Internet. I'm not prepared to front any, at this time. But eBay is not the totality of prop reproduction availability ...

That statue kinda reminds me of the fireplace wrestling scene from women in love.

I've got a question. Was it the animated series where it was established that Amanda (Spock's mother) had the maiden name of Grayson? I don't recall it being mentioned in Journey to Babel, and I've only seen Yesteryear once. Or was it only in the novel-verse where they said her birth name was Grayson?

In fact I didn't know what her maiden name was until I started reading the novels. Just like I didn't know what Sulu and Uhura's first names were until the novels. I think the first book I read that mentioned her birth name was Strangers from the Sky.

I am not the resident STAR TREK expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm sure you're right, Tracy. It's always been my understanding that Amanda's last name was first mentioned in the cartoon. It would not be mentioned again (in canon) until the reboot. Kirk's middle name was first mentioned in the cartoon, also. Do you like the character of Spock's mother? Whom do you prefer as her, by the way: Jane Wyatt? Or Wynona Rider?

Jane Wyatt. But it could be because I like the Prime universe Trek better than the reboots. And the novel-verse really fleshed the Amanda character out more in books like Spock's World, and Sarek.

Plus, I think in my mind I still see Winona Ryder as the girl in Beetlejuice or Jo March in Little Women. :)

Worf's suicide station: (TNG's Night Terrors) It's just there all the time? Complete with a couple goblets of liquid, which I'm assuming is some kind of poison to pour on the blade to I don't know... Make the death more excruciating or fatal or something. Is that like something which needs regular maintenance or refreshing the fluids?

I just imagine Worf, every time to the ship gets rocked in battle, going back to his quarters & being like "Aww man, those Romulans spilled my suicide juice" & then having to program more into the replicator

Simon Pegg does a fine job but I can't help wondering what real Scots would do with it:
