what about this crossover: 6 months after being marooned by James T Kirk, Khan Noonien Singh and his followers come under attack from a superior life form that hunts its prey in the lush jungles of Ceti Alpha V, leading to a battle that will devastate an entire world... Khan vs Predator
I would LOVE to see Dark Horse take on Trek. What they did with Star Wars was fabulous. (Eventually. Not so great in the 90s but from, like, the release of Episode II on to now was awesome.)
Well, its coming (TNG v Aliens) http://trekcore.com/blog/2016/10/idw-announces-next-generation-aliens-crossover/
Lest we forget: Marvel's 1980 comics, set post-"Star Trek: The Motion Picture", once featured a suspiciously "Alien"-looking alien! ("The Haunting of Thallus!"/"The Haunting of the Enterprise!", issues 4 & 5). He was said to be a Normedian from the Orlian Quadrant. Raytag M'Gora by Ian McLean, on Flickr
I have to admit, I honestly don't see it. That thing looks more reptilian, xenomorphs always looked more like an insect or arachnid to me. Unless the artist came out and said it was supposed to be a xenomorph reference?
They changed the head and the coloring, but there are other panels where the resemblance to a Giger Alien is more evident. It doesn't really come through in the image above, but in other panels the front/top of the head is almost exactly like a xenomorph's. And the body plan is similar. Obviously they didn't want to make it look too much like a xenomorph for legal reasons, but given that this comic came out only a year after Alien, the influence is pretty clear.
Of course it's only loosely based on "Alien", for copyright reasons, but I recall first learning about the "homage" in an interview with one of the comic's creators. (I had missed noticing the resemblance on my first read-through.)
Yep. "DS9: Misson Gamma: Cathedral". http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/pop-culture-references-in-treklit.140751/page-2#post-4918064
I'm not a big fan of the Tiptons, but count me in on this! The philosophical clash between Aliens and Star Trek -- the nihilism of Aliens (the universe isn't made for us) and the optimism of Star Trek (the universe is ours for the taking) -- provides fertile storytelling ground. Just off-hand I can think of five different possible stories, ranging from pure action-adventure (like Xenomorphs overrunning a colony world, such as in Aliens/Vampirella) to something much darker and more philosophical (not unlike the Mark Verheiden trilogy). The Xenomorphs, if used well, would force Picard and his crew to confront the limitations of the Federation's ethos. While I'd prefer, essentially, an "Elseworlds" story, so Picard and his crew would face real death, I don't think the story will go that way.
This has the potential to be great. I wonder if this will be another crossover between the universes, or if the Xenomorphs will be native to the Star Trek universe? I could see either one working this time.
I'm not a big fan of the Tiptons either, but I just read their Infestation story (TOS crew vs. zombies) and it was surprisingly enjoyable.
