Questions you'd ask a member of various alien species.

Ask some Betazoids if they considered Betazoid empaths like Troi, who don't possess full telepathic abilities, to be mentally disabled. Did Deanna ride the short bus?

Ask a Vulcan what their ear muffs & headphones look like. Ask a Ferengi how big their Q-tips are.

Ask a Benzite about 2nd hand smoke. Ask a joined Trill if they'd ever had sex with their future symbiont host.

You actually went there...

It's true that I couldn't resist a somewhat lame pun, but it's also true that I'm genuinely curious as to how any drones' 'extreme' experiences would be experienced by the collective as a whole. If one drone dies an excruciatingly painful death, what do the others feel? If one drone would experience ecstacy (if possible at all), what would the others feel? Are such experiences shared in full with all, or 'diluted' in some way? Does the Borg consciousness fluctuate, alter its states as that of a single human does, or is just an ever-constant average of billions?

I would ask the aliens who think we are 'ugly bags of mostly water' why they look like sentient human faeces

Ask an Andorian what their pornography is like.

Ask a human, if the world is united, why do we see so many more white people in Starfleet than Asians and Arabs?

Ask a Ferengi, would your entire society be fundamentally different if the guy who wrote the Rules of Acquisition thought of one about fostering customer loyalty?

Ask a Pak'led, will you come play at my casino? All the smart people always win!

Loyal customer = sucker and I think there is a Rule of Acquisition about that. Something about one being born every minute.

Customer pissed off at getting screwed = One big payoff.
Loyal customer = Small payoffs for years and years totaling a much bigger return.

If there was a World War III that ANY humans survived, and apparently there was, then it was almost certainly a series of proxy wars. Those tend to be fought in the countries of people too poor or militarily advanced to object to them being fought there, unfortunately for them. Which would end badly for... well... everyone, really - but even more so for the inhabitants of Africa, the Middle East, and large parts of Asia, I would expect. There's (almost?) no racism left in United Earth. There's just a lot more white Americans, Europeans, and probably Australians left than there is of everyone else. :(

I suppose the question I would ask regarding this would be: If Betazed is a Federation member, there probably would be hundreds of pure Betazoid candidates (all full telepaths) for this position for the Flagship of Starfleet to choose from. So, what made Deanna, as only an empath instead of a full telepath, still the first pick for this position?

It must be something really special. I mean, just compare the usefulness of these statements in a potential conflict situation: Captain, I cannot be sure but I think he is not entirely open with us and sense some vague hostile intentions, against Captain, this man is going to doublecross us and he intends to do so by covertly using some stolen access codes exploiting the gaps in our 557.31 THz shield frequency update cycle as a backdoor into our computers , using subdorsal shield generator 54-XA as his primary access point. ... which advisor would you pick ? ;)

I would ask the Borg what their plans were after they finished assimilating the Galaxy.

Why would they stop with just our galaxy , if they've already entered other domains like fluidic space ? ;)

I thought I remembered a scene in which someone asks just this question to a borg, to which the reply is: 'no one ever asked that question'. Turns out, though, that this scene is from the original Battlestar Galactica, with Starbuck asking this question to a Cylon :)

But how many full Betazoids did you see actually serving in Starfleet? Now, I'm not saying there wasn't. I can't remember all the episodes from DS9, so if anyone can think of any in that program. The only other full Betazoid I can think of in Starfleet is Lt. Stadi from Voyager. Lon Suder, was a full Betazoid I guess, but he was Maquis and I think he must have had something wrong with his telepathic abilities.

Now there was Tam Elbrun and Admiral Satie's aide, who were full telepath's, but they were not actually in Starfleet. Rather they were civilian consultants, right? Satie's aide used his abilities when she was questioning people like Simon Tarses.

Some others who were not full Betazoids. The partly Betazoid man who killed 2 people and then himself while the Enterprise was being built in that episode where a crewman killed himself by jumping into the matter stream inside the nacelle when it was running. And then Troi was having visions and almost did the same thing. There was Devonni Ral, (not sure about the name), who was part Betazoid but not part of Starfleet. He was in the episode where various races were negotiating for use of the Barzan wormhole and the 2 Ferengi get left behind in the DQ. He used his abilities to give his clients an unfair advantage.

Have I missed any? The point is, maybe not a lot of full Betazoids with full telepathic abilities may have not chose to serve in Starfleet where they would be subjected to everyone's thoughts all the time.

^ Perhaps you're right.

Then again, how many members of any Federation member world (save humans, of course) do we see actually serving in Starfleet? Betazeds may actually be among the more common non-human species in SF ;)

@at Quark's , You are correct. A lot of Starfleet does seem to be human members. I guess they're the biggest employer on Earth in the 24th century.:) It also seams like when you do have alien crew, a lot of time they are human/alien hybrids.

I wonder if there are Federation ships with crew mostly of another alien species, such as Andorians, with just a few token members of other species, including humans? Or would the Andorians and other Federation worlds still maintain their own fleets, and be considered Federation ships?

Are the majority of Betazeds emphatic, or "just" telepathic? Deanna is aboard the ship as a trained psychological councilor, and she also advises the Captain.

Does Starfleet have a career field of "mind reader?"

In the very first TNG ep, Encounter at Farpoint, there's this snippet:

ZORN: No objections to that, but but I'm puzzled over you bringing a Betazoid to this. If her purpose, sir, is to probe my thoughts
TROI: I can sense only strong emotions, Groppler. I am only half Betazoid. My father was a Starfleet officer.

Which seems to suggest that as she is half Betazoid, her abilities are less than that of a full Betazoid.

I believe it is somewhere stated that Deanna's empathic abilities are desired for first contact/diplomatic situations (and also because it makes her a more effective counselor). Though I cannot really recall where/when this is said, exactly. It seems logical to me that if empathic abilities are desired, telepathic abilities would be, too, for the same type of job.
