Elizabeth, Spock, Sela and other hybrids

Romulans may have acquired some biochemical differences due to centuries in a different biosphere. For some reason, Worf was the closest match on the Ent-D to a wounded Romulan and we KNOW the ship has Vulcan crewmembers. Also, Romulans don't suppress their emotions, so possibly their blood typically contains more hormones like adrenaline, etc than Vulcans (who may limit these via biofeedback control)?
Sounds like a perfectly legit explanation for genetic drift to me. Romulus was a lot more Earth like (and maybe even Qo'nos like) than Vulcan.

Sela would seem natural since Spock exists. Elizabeth seems to be the anomaly as she was a customized job to scary the humans population into isolationism.

That B'Elanna exists is also something since she is a Human-Klingon hybrid. Alexander is a quarter Human, his mother also being half human and half Klingon. Dax required treatments in an effort to have a hybrid baby with Worf, but that might be more due to the symbiote than just her. There was also that crewman on the Enterprise-D that was a quarter Romulan. There is also Deanna Troi and her sister that were half human and half Betazoid. There seemed to be no known issues there.

(Though not canon anymore, there was also Saavik who was suppose to be have Vulcan and half Romulan. Only a slight difference in species).

It's just another aspect of Vulcans that makes Spock seem more alien, that he can remember his own birth - not to mention his father's faux pas, in relation to it. On the other hand ... Voyager's own Harry Kim has memories of ... being in the womb. That's in an episode, not in a novel, or fan film. Perhaps, he defecated into his own embryonic fluid? That would've made a memory, breathing that shit in, for months, after.

I see it as Spock's perception of Sarek/Vulcan's attitude rather than an actual memory. One that Sybok sought to exploit, because when he left Vulcan that was Spock's mindset. Spock of course had moved on.

On the other hand, if it did, in fact 'happen' .... it's funny, in an assholed kind of a way. The only other father's reaction that it could be compared to, perhaps, was Mr. Cobblepot's in BATMAN RETURNS, when his son, The Penguin, got hatched. His wife's there, legs in the styrups and the whole bit, and he couldn't even think up a snotty comment, he just screamed like a schoolgirl and ran the frig out the room, like a chicken without a head. I wonder if Tim Burton, himself, hadn't intended that scene as an homage to THE FINAL FRONTIER.

Yes, that's my interpretation as well. You just explained it better.

I suppose Spock could have heard about it second hand rather than remembered it. If Sarek actually said it.

I seem to remember from one of the Next Generation episodes that there was also character who was a Vulcan-Klingon hybrid. She looked all Klingon except for her pointed ears. She also lived in a prison camp type situation, so her conception was probably the natural way too.

It's sci fi, so I suppose we should just go with it.

Do Vulcans gossip?
Since Sarek married a human I doubt he would expect Spock to be totally devoid of any human characteristics. That would not be logical. ;) :vulcan:

Gossiping Vulcans. Like the nurses or midwife present at the delivery? If I recall correctly in the movie, where Sybok is projecting this supposed scene from Spock's birth, isn't it an elaborately dressed priestess who delivers him. Seriously don't Vulcans have casual clothing? Especially for something messy like delivering a baby?

That is casual on Vulcan. You don't wanna see their haute couture.

In the TNG episode "Sarek," there's at least one other Vulcan-Human hybrid in Sarek's entourage named "Mendrosian," I believe. Or something like that. And in the STAR TREK cartoon, Future Spock tells his Childhood Self that he's a cousin who's got a bit of Human blood. Young Spock, in the cartoon, simply accepts this, without question, which suggests that there must be a lot of this going on, certainly by Sarek's time. Outside of the ears, though, I don't really see the appeal a Vulcan offers a Human ... what, with their anal retentiveness and embarrassment at every outward show of emotion. For a Human, surely, it must be like walking on broken glass ...

That was the episode Birthright, Part II (S06E17), with a Romulan/Klingon called Ba'el.

Why was Spock such a popular character on the original series? Opposites attract, the thought that the human might be the one to break through the repression and reserve, etc. Most of the Vulcans on the various Star Trek shows haven't seemed particularly good at controlling their emotions, either. It doesn't take much to rile one up, which would probably be irresistibe for humans.

There are humans like that and they still manage to mate and reproduce with other humans. Plus all Vulcans are not the same, some might get on very well with humans, e.g Sarek married two human woman, he must have had a thing for them.

Apparently, Mendrossen is Human, after all ...
