Luke Cage-- Marvel/Netflix

In all my years of living, I never thought I would see Luke Cage on screen and saying "Sweet Christmas." It's done so perfect, no cheese what so ever. However my favorite part is when Claire says to Luke "There is nothing that can hurt you, what the hell are you afraid of?" The delivery of that line is spot on and Luke looking into the mirror. Power Man and Iron Fist was one of my favorite comic books when I was a kid, because I always felt that Luke Cage and Danny Rand had the best friendship in all of Marvel. Not because it was perfect but because it felt real.

I plan on watching all of these over the weekend as the wife is working and not watched any of the Netflix/Marvel series and isn't too bothered about watching them.

At this point, I'm avoiding all of the little teaser trailers. No point because we're almost there.

Vox posted an interesting article Marvel’s Luke Cage: 5 things to know about the new Netflix show.

Note the article contains minor spoilers and I would recommend skipping the final point because it puts you into a certain mindset regarding a particular episode.

Interesting article. Based on Point 2, I wonder if Netflix will ever make an upbeat or atleast not grim Marvel show instead of just doing the Marvel equivalent of the DCEU, but on the small screen. Its weird how well the MCU nailed its tone, but Netflix has just gone full Snyder with the shows it makes. You can argue its to contrast the movies, but every Netflix show feels the same. At least with the MCU, you have movies like GotG feeling different then Winter Solider which itself feels different then Avengers, etc. Netflix just started out grim but using it in a decent way (Daredevil S1) then just kept going grimmer and grimmer. I was hoping Luke Cage might bring some variety to the Netflix Marvel shows, but it seems like it will be more grim and depressing stuff, just with a slightly different approach.

I get the impression that Luke Cage will try something a little different with the music and the cool factor while keeping the same tone as Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

Stan Lee cameo at 2:02-2:06.

Tony Stark and Justin Hammer name dropped. "The Incident". Already this show has more direct references to the MCU than two seasons of Daredevil and one season of Jessica Jones.

First episode, hm

Ii just didn't make me care about anyone or anything that was happening (of which not a lot was.) I might watch a few more episodes at some point, but I'm going back to finish Narcos s2 before that.

I watched episode one this morning, and I enjoyed it.
It was a bit of a slower start than I was was expecting, but we did get a lot of nice character building here though.
The whole cast did a great job.
I was surprised by the whole Hammer guns thing.
I did get a kick out of the Power Man line, and Luke not being for hire.

I really liked the first ep., yeah kinda slow but atmosphere and character building were awesome. Glad to have another free week to binge on this!

Very strong first episode. Great sense of character to Harlem and its populous; fascinating family coin of CottonMouth and Council Woman Stokes (both using power and influence for differing gains); strong soulful work by Colter as Luke; beautiful use of music throughout; slow, measured intro into the main thrust of the plot; lush cinematography (barring a strange out of focus cross-walk chat) and a nice group of main characters. Only a mildly clumsy "I'm on the run and I didn't ask for these powers" moment in the first 10 minutes and an oddly grafted "flashback" to Luke's wife holds it back.

Thoughtful, measured, exudes class but with a nice lick of power and violence when needed.

Just like Luke

Hugo - looking forward to the rest

I think that first episode had the most skin on display that we've gotten so far in a Marvel production.
