Some days ago the official movie homepage was updated, now showing a good summary of all US releases of Beyond.

So if you buy the DVD and not BR, you just get the movie and that's it?

 

That's been a thing for a while now.

 

Yep. Very reminiscent of how VHS releases of movies, with very rare exceptions, had no "extras" while laserdisc and, later on, DVDs had them. Seems with Blu-ray players available for about 25-30 dollars these days, around 50$ for a "name brand", studios are trying to drive the market away from DVD. Even the digital downloads (iTunes and the like) often have the extras, for those not wanting to go the Blu-ray route. Simple economics, though no fun for those who, for whatever reason, have not moved to downloads or Blu-ray.

 

Something they should've done in 2010/2011. There's no reason to have two formats out there. Once monster hits and TV shows started going to Blu-ray alone, people would've went with it.

 

It looks like the downloads in the way to go.

 

I still have a VHS player

 

I do too. There's a few things I may want to revisit at some point, that aren't on any other format (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Special Longer Version). But, I don't expect them to put Deadpool on VHS.

 

Sooner or later a VHS player breaks down though and there's nobody around to repair them, or even spare parts.

 

There are billions of them floating around. Fixing them will be possible for the foreseeable future, even if it takes some effort.

Excuse me while I go complain about not being able to play Mass Effect on my Atari 2600.

 

They are still sold too, usually as a combo with a DVD player.

Also, those things last forever. I have had one for nearly 10 years.

 

I only have one left, (I used to have three but one started destroying the cassettes, and the other one just stopped working altogether) I only use the remaining one, once in a great while lest it'll break down like the two others.

 

Thrift stores are your friend

I've had one machine for about 15 years too. I've had to replace broken DVD and Blu Ray players a dozen times over that period, usually because the disc-reading laser has given up, but the VHS machine keeps kicking along.
