I thought that was a drink.

So did I, but if you listen to Picard in Sub Rosa, he says: "I take it, you aren't scotch." or something like that. I thought that was funny as hell.

I was half expecting the guy to answer: "no thanks, I don't drink this early in the afternoon."

I thought of my uncle Nigel, who is also a huge Trekkie.

Also, I love that song, and XTC in general, but I always preferred this cover:

The line in the pilot was a throwaway, written for the audience of that time. That's all, nothing more. It was not offensive to many, if any, back then. It should not be interpreted as being an intentional slight toward women.

In my opinion, people have become unnecessarily thin-skinned and let themselves be injured by what others say. Words won't kill you. Never have, never will. People with sticks and stones (and knives and guns) can.

I'm going to my safe space now. :techman:

Words are more powerful than you think, there is a reason there are laws for slander, libel and even laws for conspiracy to commit an act of murder or terror. Trump might be President of the USA and its not because he stood at lecterns smiling serenely saying nothing.
Anyway its interesting how limited the writers' view of the future was, even in the 1960's. Perhaps the concept that TOS Star Trek was set in the 23rd century did not exist until later in the franchise.
