So, is it just that the console edition simply does not allow players to tour the other decks of their starship like the PC version, or is this another thing that unlocks at level 50?

The PC version has 2-3 decks depending on the starship.

The bridge, crew deck (quarters, sickbay, mess hall) and the engineering deck. (Engineering, labs, transporter room)

I've been pretty impressed with the X-Box One console port. The game looks beautiful. Does take a little getting used to the controls, and obviously they've rolled out the game with just basic content for now. But the damn thing plays so smoothly. I'll likely never put the money into the console version that I did into my pc account, and therefore be pretty casual with my console play.

My ideal situation would be replacing my laptop with one that can actually handle STO reasonably well. I log in periodically, but never last long. And I'm sitting on a pile of Lobi earmarked for a Vengeance. Sigh.

It would have to be some seriously awesome content for me to consider putting real money into either version. As I mentioned further back in the thread, all I've paid for is one fairly low-priced ship, and I wouldn't do that again.

I recently got a new laptop, and had a hell of a time getting the game to run in Windows 10. Now that I've got it working, if I run it in 1080p it renders everything so small that I can't see what the hell's going on.

I'm infinitely more likely to play games on console than pc anyway, and already in the space of a week I've overtaken my pc character in terms of progression. (Finally encountered the crashing bug on the Romulan arc, dropped the mission for now - will go back to it once it's been patched). I'm not that experienced with MMOs in general and there's so much to think about I'm probably doing tons of stuff 'wrong', but I'm managing to progress and having fun doing it, which is the name of the game!

I keep telling myself I'm not going to buy anymore ships, and then I buy more ships. Of course, the last ship I bought was the Odyssey Tactical, so it's been a while. I'm poor now, and ship prices seem to be a little too pricey for me at this point. There are a few ships I would love to have, but you have to pay $30 in real money to get them, and that's just too much.

^ I know what you mean about buying ships. Last year I brought I think 5 or 6. This year said I would buy 4 maximum. So far only brought 2 so far. Might be another Romulan ship at some stage, but would need to use that toon more before I get one.

Yeah, my maxed out character has everything he needs, and the character I'm leveling up already has a number of T5 and T6 ships at her disposal once she gets there. There's just no need right now.

Boy the console version is buggy, but I'm having fun. I'm already level 45 and only halfway through the Cardassian Struggle missions.

For those console players, the only way to access your starship's lower decks is by selecting the Origins or TOS bridge.

Looking to buy a good ship when I hit 50. What do you veteran players think of the Regent class Assault Cruiser Refit for a tactical captain?

Rather than get a Tier 5 ship, I'll recommend getting a Tier 6. It costs $5 more but they're typically more powerful.

There's currently no T6 version of the Assault Cruiser lineage, but the T6 Arbiter Battlecruiser is a very good choice for tactical officers. It packs a big punch, can take a beating and it's Starship Mastery Trait is to die for.

I played on PC and came back fro xbox and am really enjoying it. Space looks beautiful! Ground combat, as usual, looks quite lame and also plays pretty lame. Still fun with friends though!

Thanks for the advice. As far as I've been able to find, at level 50, both Tier 5 and 6 ships become available to purchase. One would assume that all Tier 6 ships would be superior to Tier 5, so why do both become available at the same time? What advantages am I missing besides besides the stats?

the selection of T6 ships is rather limited on the consoles at the moment, for fed we only have the resolute, Andromeda, Hestia, Jupiter, pathfinder, valiant and the 3 intel ships (phantom, scryer and eclipse)

Plus T5 ships are budget ships in comparison
You get them cheaper, and can upgrade them later to T5U, wich makes them comparable in stats, but more basic and with more convential layouts.
They just never get specialization bridge offer stations or starship traits.
If you have starship traits from other T6 ships however you can use them on a T5U making the difference negligible.
And you get unique starship consoles/abilities that the T6s are not gonna get. Some will unlock set boni that you won't otherwise get.

Edit: And don't forget that your fleet can unlock even further upgrades for your endgame ships both for T5 and T6.
Though getting to a point where all ship upgrades become available can take months and even years depending on fleet size and activeness of it's members.
That's for the newborn fleets on the consoles of course.
The TrekBBS Armada on PC should have unlocked pretty much everything by now.

It feels like Cryptic wants console players to first upgrade to T5 before upgrading again to T6 at a later date. Ouch.

Then again if you already have T6 ships, why use a T5-U? I agree that a T5-U and T6 of the same lineage are in general equally powerful.. that is.. if you don't consider the T6's Starship Mastery Trait. That trait usually makes a big difference in how the two ships perform.

Also, don't forget some T6 ships can be further upgraded to T6 Fleet Ships. Stat for stat, the T6 Fleet Ship will be stronger than the T5-Upgraded Ship.

The problem is unique T5 ship consoles are mostly underpowered and the ship will be better without equipping the console. Most players eventually ditch the T5 ship's unique consoles after the novelty wears off.

I'm a little disappointed to hear it is so buggy
It can be a little buggy but I haven't encountered anything game-breaking yet. In one level I was playing last night the environment didn't load for a second, so I thought I was about to walk out into empty space. That was weird. The only one I've seen that's a consistent problem is when my Captain is shown in a cutscene sitting in the Captain's chair...but not sitting in the chair...One time he was literally standing upright on the seat. Another time he was clipped through the seat, sitting on the floor, with his head through the cushion. Weird. But like others have said, the game is updated every day, so, whatever.

Yesterday on PS4 during a cutscene that I couldn't skip, the skin of the Romulan and Reman characters talking kept clipping. The two of us playing were horrified by the floating eyes and disembodied teeth and gums. It was like a scene out of They Live.

It also appears like they finally fixed the Empress Sela mission.
