One thing that annoys me in Voyager...

I have forgottent to add the Doctor, on my list.
Picardo is a wonderful actor, no doubt on that, but from season 5, I couldn't support his character of EMH anymore. The excess of stories led by the Doctor became too much for me. Over and above, the fact that the Doctor became more and more unbearable/intolerable.
-> sometimes, I regretted that Janeway didn't decide to switch off his progam from time to time! ;)

They couldn't humiliate and destroy the character in a flashback episode, therefore they never brouhght her back to a flashback episode.
On the contrary, in those flashback episodes they did their best to pretend that Kes never had existed. :(
 
^They certainly did. I was watching Latent Image last night. When the Doctor and Seven were talking about it, he specifically said "It was before you came on board". I think I need to make a post about this in the "What's your head canon thread". To come up with a reasonable in-story explanation for why she wasn't there.
 
I'd have loved if Janeway just screamed, "DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!" rather than "Compensate!"

But if I were in charge, everyone would be far more salty.
 
Did the writers/script checkers fail to compensate for a lack of synonyms or are they sticking to some military/navy tech jargon barks in the shows bible? (chosen words that cannot be mixed up when shouting over exploding terminals) or it might be the same writers who liked to rely on elaborate & hyperventilate.

Imho compensating is a known feature/bug of the power management systems of Intrepid-class ships, Voyager was always shunting power around (finite amount of power being conserved for longer periods of time). Typically the way to fix Voyager is to compensate/compromise every energy system you can get your hands on until you hit life-support (energy topic has been covered around the forums a lot).

I wish they used the word compromise properly in Voyager instead of compensate since thats what they usually did to fix systems in crisis (stealing power from the shields -> defences compromised, taking the EMH offline to save power -> crews health compromised etc). It might make fan-sense if you (are the captain and) know all orders are noted and compensate is a much safer term to use if you were worried about military trials or mutiny ;-)


On the flip-side, some great sounding antonyms Trek never used that sound like tecno-babble but are actually real are: enumerate, parse and allocate (which is a pity considering a lot of the running repairs involved software/hacks of some kind). (Re)calculating is something Tuvok might say but the crew usually defaulted to saying check, which again sounds like a military bark.

The only thing that really annoys me about Star Trek Voyager is that it lasted 7 seasons instead of 25.
That's the only annoying thing about it. Everything else is just minor inconvenience ... at best ... :guffaw:

I know people hated it the most of all the Treks but I loved it so much especially towards the end. I would have loved more seasons. The books are not a good enough substitute.

And yes, I don't really like the books.
But then again, an ending when they don't make it home would have been a lot more to my taste.

Ending the show without making it home? I don't think they would have dared.
 
This is a perfect example of the unpredictability of different tastes.

I love that Janeway says, "Compensate." I think it encapsulates in one word the attitude she expressed in a few more words when she said, "There are always alternatives. We just have to find them"--which is the attitude that for me defines her character and the optimistic idealism of her show (yes, her show).

When I was going through a somewhat difficult time in my life, I wrote out the word COMPENSATE in big bold letters on a piece of paper and stuck it to my wall. Even now, when I find myself anxious or overwhelmed by a perceived obstacle, I let the word, "Compensate" run through my head, as I imagine Janeway would say it, and I start to feel better; like whatever it is that's bothering me has become something to simply accept and deal with the best I can.

Now admittedly, the whole reason the word has meaning for me is because Janeway says it so much, so the first time my family and I watched Voyager, we all started making fun of the catchphrase, but from the beginning, in a loving way.

What's there not to dare? I mean if they were afraid of alienating the audience, it doesn't matter on the last episode. Those who were not alienated up to that point would surely watch it. So what would they be afraid of?

Well, it's never a good idea to disappoint in the finale.

Take "All Good Things..", it a very good episode, well above average of the series.
