New Animation for Animated Series

I would also completely replace the soundtrack. The Filmation music library is instantly recognizable and has a certain quaintness but it is nauseatingly repetitive and it's layered in with about as much thought to it as the background music of Our Gang/Little Rascals.

I hope the isolated voiceover records still exist someplace.

Any viewing of Have Gun Will Travel proves that. I'm addicted to that series. Nice, taut half hour shows, often very powerful.
I've just finished watching all of Have Gun--Will Travel. Overall this was an excellent series. Not all the episodes were winners. A minor percentage every season were just okay, but none of them were stinkers.

Nope. Reanimate it and I fear it'll just draw attention to the often weak/phoned in voice work. TAS works (such as it does) as-is.

Yep. It's not just the poor animation it's the terrible voice performances.
And the super annoying re-use of Nichols, Doohan and Barrett as other characters.

Maybe for one or two of the best episodes AND if you replace the side characters with brand new vocal performance actors it would be interesting.
But then the OP said it -- too expensive anyway to do all that.

If only one thing was wrong with the show it might be feasible but with both stilted VO work and terribly plain animation and a lot of weak stories......

Alright, so... maybe just "The Lorelei Signal", "The Time Trap", "The Magicks of Megas-Tu", and "Yesteryear" - and then see what good *new* episodes could be made using dialog recorded for the other episodes, the 25th Anniversary game and Judgment Rites, TJ Hooker (Kirk), Bold and the Beautiful (Scotty), and whatever else they can get their hands on. ;)

If you have ever watched a number of series (with a half hour format) from the 1950s to early '60s you can clearly see that 25 minutes should not hamper telling an effective drama story.
I remember getting the DVD's of the early half hour versions of Gunsmoke. Those are fantastic. I like them better than I like the later seasons. Lean fast paced episodes with no filler. I would not mind if they kept TAS at the half hour format. I wonder if these episodes could be converted into a live action series? I would love to see them become the 4th and 5th season of the show. It seems like a natural fit for CBS All Access.

It's a lot easier on a show that doesn't have to introduce a whole new culture pretty much every episode.

I actually really like the music from TAS, but as you say, it is repeated far too much.

If the Discovery format proves popular, a new animated show featuring the crew (post TMP possibly) with ongoing plot threads would be preferable for me.

Agreed. If Discovery does well, you might just be looking at an animated spin off to bring younger fans into Trek.

RAMA

Although it's possible that they may wait until after the fourth (and final?) NuTrek movie and use the cartoon to continue the Kelvin universe.
