Do you think LGBT characters will feature more prominently?

The idea that "we" are the good guys, the enlightened ones, while all those other societies is wrong doesn't resonate with me. Even within the federation there are disagreements about what is moral and what is not... (Data's rights?) so the ideal society can't even get it together. Accepting every difference is not the way since we would all agree that incest and bestiality are wrong (wouldn't we?) so clearly, there are limits. Trek would be much wiser to stay the path and avoid this subject. I would drop my $5.99 a month and everyone would benefit.

Yes! Bye!

In what universe are LGBT people in any way comparable to people who abuse animals? Animals are incapable of giving consent unlike any relationship between adult humans. Based on your language you clearly find LGBT people disgusting. I'm not sure why, you probably have some personal issues that you need to work out since most people really aren't bothered by the love lives of their neighbors unless they're keeping you up at night. But we at least know there is going to be a gay crewmember on the new series and they'll probably be the first of many in the future. LGBT people aren't going anywhere. They're going to show up in your shows and movies like everyone else and eventually all this bigotry is going to be seen as an awful relic of the past when we decided that some people were less human than others.

Kirk and a landing party materializes in the middle of an alien township, he notices that all the men are holding hands, and walking too close. "QUEERS! KILL THEM ALL!" 50,000 corpses later it is explained to Kirk that what he actually saw was a father and son picnic day, so he apologises, and they all laugh it off.

The old argument that Star Trek is all about tolerance. There are many species in Star Trek, not only humans, and these other species have their own ways, and their own intolerances. People are viewing Trek strictly from the point of view of the Federation, but ignore the other species which inhabit the galaxy. Or do you dismiss the points of view of those other species' because the are .... different? If you want to label me a bigot instead of someone who has simply had enough of the PC parade, fine, but just know that there are many others like me, and if you ignore us, you doom the franchise.
How do people like you even become Star Trek fans? One of Star Trek's hallmarks is about accepting everyone, regardless of their gender, skin colour, religious beliefs, species, and yes, sexuality. How can you embrace IDIC and not embrace LGBT?

And no, being accepting and tolerant does not mean we have to accept and tolerate your bigotry. You can wrap yourself up in whatever rationalizations you like, but you are a bigot, and to be honest Star Trek fandom does not need or want anyone like you or these supposed "like minded fans." Your departure will enrich the franchise rather than doom it.

Besides, Doctor Who has continued to thrive a decade after it began introducing LGBT characters, including one who even got his own spin-off. In fact, I might even go so far as to say it has more public attention than Star Trek does at the moment. The Walking Dead's doing fine too with gay characters in the comics and both TV series.

It seems that the bigots are not discouraged by seeing their ranks grow thinner every year, or people becoming more and more hostile to their ideas. They seem to think that they'll be able to reverse the natural evolution of society. What a waste of time and effort!

Because any bigotry and intolerance for LGBTQ people flies in the face of everything Trek stands for.
Unfortunately this is what Star Trek has stood for for it's first half century, and is something that needs to change.
why not include a midget on the show?
While a derisive comment on your part, this is someone I would like to see as a Starfleet officer.
Straight people turning everything beige everywhere!
This is how we got the carpet on the TNG bridge.

I was prepared to plunk down the money to watch the show (and indoctrinate my wife & 3 youngsters), but after learning about this agenda, I have sadly put my wallet away, realizing that Trek is dead to me. I was looking for an interesting space western but instead it looks like this is going to be a vehicle to push the PC agenda. If it fails, and a part of me is hoping it does, it will likely be in part because of the lgbtq inclusion.
Yup, set them before the TV to watch a character who is attracted to the same sex and watch your family turn gay before your eyes. By the end of the episode they'll be desperate to try it for themselves, because that's how TV works. Make sure you don't let them watch any police procedurals or they'll become serial killers.

Is my view of lgbtq "different" from yours? Shouldn't you be enjoying and accepting my difference? I'm really just here to say that if Trek goes through with this nonsense that they will be losing fans and they really can't afford that. I don't want Trek to end, but it is going to if they don't listen to those of us on the other side.
Yes because shows like The Walking Dead, American Horror Show, Ugly Betty, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Sex and the City, Doctor Who, Days of Our Lives, EastEnders, True Blood, Orange Is the New Black, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Glee, Sense8, Major Crimes, et al, have all been hugely unsuccessful and bombed with audiences because they included gay characters.

Good point! It's like that guy is from another planet.

Your kind may not be a dying breed but there are less and less of those who hold your views. Thank god for that.

They're like Dinosaurs and their meteor is called sexual freedom.

To continue the metaphor, the scientific method is the asteroid belt from where this meteor came. "Sexual freedom" is simply the application of rationality to sex, one of the many freedoms afforded by the casting off of unquestioned dogma.

So long as they're well rounded, fully realized people who just happen to have a different experience of sexuality and attraction, I'm fine with it. I don't want to see only humans represented though. This is the Star Trek universe, not ours. There should be alien races who approach the whole relationship/reproduction thing from a totally different angle. Like the hermaphroditic Hermat's from NF or the Asgard from Stargate, who relied on cloning.

I don't want to see Mary Sue-ish caricature characters or only humans. I also don't want to see same sex relationships that materialize out of thin air. I may not have the same experience of sexuality that characters like Felix from Orphan Black or Captain Jack Harkness do. But they're well written, well portrayed people who are likable for who they are...not who they choose to sleep with.

What I definitely don't want are sex scenes, no matter who's involved. At least nothing any more that what TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY had. I grew up watching those series, and any new Trek should still be family friendly. Which is one of the issues I have with ENT.

Star Trek fairly regularly has one character kill another, often in cold blood, and fully depicted on screen, sometimes with main characters presented as good upstanding people wielding the weapon. As a starting point, the Worf/Duras fight is my first exhibit. The murder of Jadzia is my second. I'm not sure I see why that is 'family friendly' but consenting adults engaged in sex is not?
