What would you hope to see in the new show. Let's have fun. This doesn't have to be that serious so please no rigid responses saying the above post doesn't make sense, or not possible for 10 years prior to TOS, blah blah.

    My first choices-

    • Working padds
    • A Talaxian in the background during a scene set on some kind of space station just to stick it to the canon purists
    • A toilet
    • One of the characters having a still in their quarters
    • An alien pet
    I'll add more later on.

    More aliens-check
    New Starship-check
    New crew-check
Some topical issues-According to Meyer, check
Updated look for 2016-check(so we were told)
AI-Well they say robots at least..

    Exploration.

    Stuff like this:

Action-Adventure-I would hope so. It shouldn't be a pure drama.

A ground excursion vehicle-Even with transporters, it would be convenient for getting from point A to point B while covering territory.

    4K? Wishful thinking maybe.

Beyond style music. Orchestral with some synthetic flourishes.

A Yoda character that constantly gets flushed out the airlock..

    • Good stories. Since the writing staff includes Nicholas Meyer, Joe Menosky, and Bryan Fuller, I'm not too worried on this front.
    • A reasonable amount of continuity with TOS. In other words, I hope that it doesn't contradict a ton of stuff without good reason, and that the set designs and uniforms look like they could fit into the pre-TOS period. Something between "The Cage" and the look of the Kelvin from ST09 would be fine by me.
    • Some Easter Eggs or a cameo or two. It would be neat to find out more details on Donatu V or see Amanda Grayson outside the context of her marriage to Sarek.
    • New perspectives on the ST universe. Something that will make us go, "WOW! I've never thought of it in that way before!"
    • A decent amount of action-adventure and derring-do. Fewer discussions in the conference room, more fights in the engine room.
    • Smooth-headed Klingons. I miss those guys.
    • Joanna McCoy. Because it's about time she was made canonical, dammit. :)

Thinking on it a bit more, I'm kind of hoping that we'll see an Andorian and/or a Tellarite on the crew. Both races are a bit underdeveloped and underrepresented considering that they're both supposed to be founding members of the Federation.

    1. Klingons.
    2. NO MORE KLINGONS PLEASE
    3. Romulans
    4. Enough with the Romulans, I'm already sick of them. AND NO GODDAMN BORG.
    5. Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.
    6. No more catch phrases, it's goddamn childish, Star Trek is serious business.
    7. Is Garth in it? Is Number One the Number One? Fingers crossed.
    8. Stop reusing charaters, invent something new. I'm watching it for the new.
    10. Time travel.
    9. OH GOD no more time travel episodes after the TCW debacle
    11. Whales. The only successful Trek had whales. Add whales and it will work.
    12. No. Goddamn. Time. Travel.
    13. Cerebral stories.
    14. Are we going to sit in the ready room all goddamn day?
    15. Whales. I'm telling you, whales.
    16. A policewoman ending my post on the grounds of it being silly.
    17. A second policewoman arresting the first one for giving my post too much credit.
    18. U.S.S. Vengeance crashing into my post to make it shut up.

    This I like.

Kind of like STNG's "The Chase", that forever changed ST as we know it.

    -Likeable characters with common sense.
-Lots of cool and colourful aliens (along the lines of TMP, STIV and Kelvin Trek)
    -Colourful, larger than life adventures.
-Earth to look like it does in Star Trek Into Darkness.
-No MASSIVE STUPID PLOTHOLES (Thinking of ENT: "Dawn", which could have been immediately solved if Enterprise beamed down a tent with AC)
-Modern look (I LOVE the TOS designs, but I've seen them for YEARS now in New Voyages, Continues and others)
-Weird, TOS/TAS style batshit crazy stuff (Kirk vs Apollo! Duplicate 1960's Earths! Roman Planet! Gangster Planet! Nazi Planet! Giant Spock Clone! Reverse Universe! Antimatter Universe! Magic AU!) that TNG+ was ashamed of.
-Don't explain everything. The imagination is a powerful and wonderful thing.
-No meaningless babytalk technobabble solutions (looking at you, Voyager's "The Swarm")
-Explore a Dyson sphere. With today's technology it would be AMAZING. Make the whole series about it, even.
-If we must have Klingons, make them scary MFers like in Into Darkness rather than corny TNG-style pie heads in rubber armour and big 80's perm wigs talking about honour and acting like complete fools. Read The Final Reflection. Repeatedly.
-Robert April, based on Diane Carey's fuddy-duddy British sweater wearing version from Final Frontier and Best Destiny (from which ST'09's George Kirk was based)

Aside from the what really matters (story, character, relevance), my geek list includes:

Bumpy vs. Flathead Klingon bigotry with one subjugating the other due to the flathead's more human sensibilities, possibly leading to ethnic cleansing civil war. Extensive development on their history and culture and a look at their industry.

Remans ( as oppressed species metaphor but also deadly antagonists ) - The only thing I liked about Nemesis.

Ferengi - after cursing their creation on TNG, DS9 made me love these goofy little basterds. They represent the current state of humanity. Possible stories about how they got ahead by buying tech, elevating their culture through acquisition rather an invention and the problems that can cause.

A better sense of scale in depiction of large ships, cities, etc. Limitations of time, tech, and budget made many old sets look more like stage sets than theatrical ones.

At least one seriously flawed starfleet officer (looking at you, Garth) - Someone who damages starfleet's rep and credibility, etc.

No antagonists that are way out of their league - I love Q, I really love the Borg, but they have no place right now.

Compelling dialogue - This is where the medium of TV shines, and Trek could do better here. Techno babble should not go completely, but should be tempered and weaved into the dialogue more organically.

No humanoid looking androids - It was painful to watch Data age. He was awesome but that won't fly these days. More mech-like automatons would also help give a retro feel while being cool with the young people, but not droids.

When continuity works, pay homage. When it doesn't, eject it - Data's origin was terrible, and when he became a standout character they were forced to develop it even more. I couldn't help thinking that Soongh in season 3 could have easily retconned all up to that point.

This is fun. I guess my main wish would be

NO MORE EXPLODING CONSOLES ON THE BRIDGE

Seriously, the class action lawsuits against the designers at utopia planitia must have bankrupted star fleet at some point.

Shouldn't these guys take a shot at some low-voltage ship controls? Or reinforced panels?

It seems like most of the damage to crew would come from a) getting slammed into the ceiling/wall/floor b) hull breach c) radiation... d) SPACE MADNESS

Or at least put safety shield systems around the consoles and then have them malfunction on occasion. Seriously, you're safer facing Klingon infantry on a Genesis Planet than taking the helm.

And if they insist on showing more graphic death, then it's time to see the results of inertial dampers going offline as the ship comes out of warp. REDRUM

Also hoping they will take a cue from BSG and make space battles silent. I also really enjoyed in BSG how the camera would zoom in great distances to see a dogfight, and then look shakey (as with an actually telephoto lens).

Beyond visual range space battles...the thing that only TOS got right, and then likely just because of budget. These ships should be destroying each other without ever being in the same shot...not up each other's asses.

Colour-coded Starfleet uniforms. It's not Trek without those uniforms.

No flippin' Holodeck expy technology, please.

Have at least one character whose job/position we haven't seen before in a Trek series.

    - New ship designs (Starfleet and alien)
    - An appearance by a classic Constitution class Starship (aka the prime universe design, it doesn't have to be the Enterprise I just want to see one of the ships)
    - I know it would never happen, but I want to see a FJ ship design (seeing a Saladin Class ship would be amazing)
    - Don't make the tech noticeably more advanced then TOS (I'm not talking about updating the controls to be less "60s" and stuff like that, I mean don't give the ship a holodeck and other tech we see in TNG and later but know wasn't in the TOS era).
    - Give us a few interesting alien crew members, not just a single vulcan or something like that
    - Use the TOS warp scale (this is very low o the list, but it would be entertaining to hear them talk about warp 10+ again)
    - Have the entire main cast actually be characters who get character stuff, and don't just mostly ignore some of them like Harry Kim, Mayweather, etc were ignored.

Nice idea, but it won't work on TV too well. Don't get me wrong, the only show that did it convincingly was The Expanse, with it's rail gun battle..and it was done well, but having a ship in the same frame makes the combat more immediate. I think this is one of the handful of conceits we'll always have to accept in Trek.

    • Andorians, Tellerites, Vulcans, Orions, Klingons
    • Designs that look futuristic today, but still manage to have a TOS flavor to them.
    • Story and timeline continuity with TOS. I don't mind if it looks different, but I would like them to at least try to keep the timeline consisten with TOS and stuff established in the 24 Century shows.
    • TNG, DS9, and Kelvin timeline aliens who make sense to be there. So no Borg, Q, or Ferengi, but maybe some Betazoids, Trill, and Cardassians.
    • Lots of big action scenes
    • Intelligent writing and stories
    • Deal with current issues
