New Forum Smell...

Inhaled deeply through my nose after reading the title, as if I was actually going to pick up a new forum smell.
Yes, there was a goodly amount of discussion on this back when the title of the series was announced. Some are insisting on abbreviating it as "DSC" instead.
I am still insisting on calling it "STD," and I am eagerly anticipating catching STD when it is finally available.

No. In fact, I'm all for it. It'll be great marketing, and not nearly so unfortunate as that diet candy called AYDS from the 1980s. A sense of humor required? Outrageous!
Besides, STD is no longer in vogue because disease and condition acronyms change at the whims of the latest administration: VD, STD, STI... We'll get a another new one to remember before long anyway.

Now I think about it I was certainly lurking around the time of season six of Voyager because I can remember the rage that Fury generated.
There was another Trek discussion board I used to visit but it closed years ago, and I can't remember the name of it. I remember looking for Insurrection news anyway.
I know what you mean. I was so stoked that I made screencaps of the whole trailer and threw together a quick and dirty webpage to share with the BBS so we could all scrutinize the details of each frame. I still have it somewhere on my PC at home.

I do remember that Steve Krutzler got the cast list for Enterprise, faxed to him from a Kinko's or something a few blocks from Paramount Studios, and a lot of would-be investigative reporters from other fan sites tried to tear the thing to pieces for weeks. They were sure it was a fraud; they couldn't stand the idea that Trekweb got it.
That was the document that featured "Jackson Archer" and "T'Pau."

No, maybe because the official acronym is DSC. Just as it is TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT. No "ST"s there also.
As far as I'm concerned the only STD in the 50 year franchise is Star Trek into Darkness. And I mean that both figuratively and literally.
That made me think of the campus map they provide to folks visiting UT Austin. The buildings are abbreviated to a three-letter label. The stadium where the Longhorns play football is designated "STD". I'm sure some of the undergrad morons have fun with that...
