In the first scene on the bridge, the young helmsman says something snarky and there is canned laughter. The captain grimaces and says, "Computer, disable laugh track." That's the end of that.
I'd like to see Lt Susie Green as ship's counselor on Curb Your Enterprise. That's what I'd like to see.

No.
It was funny enough seeing Shatner host SNL in the fall of 1986.
Star Trek was not meant to be a sitcom.

The proper answer is a star trek ANIME. People wouldn't dismiss it. Psycho pass and steins;gate say hello. Plus anime people are very open minded, they'll watch the first one ir two episodes of any new anime regardless of genre just because it's an anime. CBS can contact me about the royalty cheque on this idea.

Note: completely misread the thread and thought it was referring to animated and not sitcom for some reason lol

How about each episode of season one being a different genre. Anime, comedy, thriller, drama, fantasy, horror, action, romance etc. Obviously all within the usual sci fi trappings of the Star Trek looniverse.

Aside from anime, it's been pretty normal for Trek to do all those genres.

There's always this, I suppose.

But I wouldn't be too harsh on him, yet. It's space, with weird science nobody gets. There could be a million and one reasons for this that don't involve indiscretions on his part. Troi of all people should understand. An alien made her pregnant without her consent.

I just want Star Trek to be "Star Trek". Big heroes, exploring and encountering weird shit. I don't need a courtroom series, or a spy series, or a sitcom. Just let it be what it is best at: fun, engaging soft sci-fi.

Big damn heroes?

The beautiful thing about the Star Trek format, is that it can be anything it wants to be from week to week, movie to movie.
Indeed. Although that will be harder with short seasons and story arcs.

If it is written by Dan Harmon, sure.
Or David X. Cohen.
I actually think a Star Trek comedy could be a lot of fun. The series did comedy episodes, so it's obviously possible for it to be funny. I think the best way to go about it would be to do it as either a workplace comedy, or a something like It's Always Sunny In Philedaphia where we just have a bunch of crazy friends getting into crazy situations. I wouldn't want to see it as a rom-com or family sitcom. I could maybe see the family thing working if it was something like The Rikers, where the whole thing is based on them being on a ship out exploring. You would probably want to keep at least the basic idea of a ship out exploring, but then just have them running into comedic situations rather than dramatic ones.
