The Strain (Guillermo del Toro's New FX Summer Show)

Everyone I have know seems to hate that kid, and for good reason. There is only so much credibility in his being in denial or suffering PTSD or whatever you want to forgive his atrocious behavior.

The actor playing the kid in the first season was much more likeable. I don't know why they went with a new actor but he sure did nail being unlikable.

From what I understand they switched actors because they didn't feel the original kid had the range needed for the journey the character needed to go on (or some guff like that) If they're going with the story in the books this kinda makes sense, although Zak mk2 is just annoying (not the actors fault its the way the kid is written)

I thought that was a pretty good premiere.
I liked Fet working with the Seals.
Gus giving his locked up Strigoi mother blood was messed up.
I forgot that Mia Maestro left, so I was surprised we didn't see Nora at all.

Nora died in the season 2 finale. So it's not surprising she didn't show up. So they got rid of that dead ferret wig off of Corey Stoll's head. That thing looked horrible.

He shaved his head in one of the episodes last season when he was on the run.

I was wondering...did he shave his head for Ant Man? (i.e. was the head shaving in tandem with Ant Man filming?)
I think his hair in the first season and beginning of the second was a wig. So Ant-Man was just him without the wig, and then he got rid of it on The Strain around that time too.

Corey Stoll is bald (or with very little hair, akin to the style of our fair Pattie Stew). The poor man was lumbered with a wig for the first season and a half as Carlton Cuse wanted Ephram to be able to change his appearance in later seasons, firstly as a disguise and secondly as a "character moment" when he shifts to a more warrior-like.

Hugo - some men just don't look right with hair

I found the season premiere pretty do-nothing. Maybe I just don't remember the pace of the show, but it felt like nothing happened.

We learned a Big Thing: the Srigoi came from "an old world" to this "new world." Planet or other plane? But they're not native to our earth.

And also interesting was Quinlan referring to humans contemptuously as "cattle." Was that an act for the Ancients, or his real sentiment? The way he's been portrayed he'd be the kind of character to not give a rat's ass how he looks to anyone else and probably less to the Ancients than most, so I am thinking real sentiment.

Not crazy about what they are doing with Gus, but willing to give that some time before judging.

The scenes with Fet and the SEALS being hunted in the church tunnels got my pulse going so good on that!

For a drinker, Eph doesn't know his bottles very well. He pointed to a "fifth" when trading the asthma medicine, but Raoul passed him a pint of vodka. (A fifth is 750 mL--well it's a little more, but that's what they make now. But neither can be mistaken for a pint.)
