Yes, but she no longer looked like an alien. So people would have to be reminded constantly that she was one.
It would be like Jery Ryan becoming allergic to her borg implants.
But that had nothing to do with her being fired, in fact she wasn't even their primary victim when it comes to firing anyone. Kim (Garret Wang) was.
As for her hairdo, I liked the short hairstyle better. It was a sort of trademark which made her Kes. She looked good in log hair too but it made her more anonymous in some way, just like any anonymous Starfleet crewmember running by in the corridor.
They could have found some other stuff to fix her ears. I'm sure they could have solved this.

Right, it did take anything alien away from her. I just personally am not a huge fan of short hair on women.
I am sure of that too. They do that all the time now, for people who are allergic to specific substances.
It looks good on some of them. Like Kes and Ezri Dax.
