Will there be a pass the torch charater?

Bruce Greenwood and Zachary Quinto as Pike and Spock on a communication with the Enterprise.

And then, of course, there's the Tony Todd shortlist thing…

Discovery departs Vulcan in the first episode. Before it does, an elderly Ambassador T'Pol is seen beaming down. She's accompanied by somebody that looks suspiciously like Connor Trinneer with pointy ears.

And we agree to never speak of the previous TV episode ever again.

He could play old Jake Sisko as a astrophysics student (or whatever the hell he was learning). A wormhole could pop open on the Discovery, he sticks his head out looks around and says something like "Too far" pulls his head back in, and the wormhole disappears.

I think Soval could work as well beside T'Pol and Phlox.
I think Gary Graham's time in official Trek is over.

As for Greenwood and Quinto, I seriously doubt it. Greenwood is much older than Pike would be in that era, and Quinto is probably too expensive now.

I'd rather not see any torch-passing. This series needs to separate itself from Berman era and nu- Trek, and stand on its own merit.

If DSC would have been set post-NEM, then yes it would have been great.

Don't see the need for this setting. Just go.

Or this could be the open tease of every episode, Riker standing in the corridor and walking into the holodeck and starting the week's adventure.

Instead of a captain's log, Frakes would do voice overs telling the audience what's going on.
And at the end of every episode, Deanna's voice yelling, "Will, for chrissake, come to bed!"

I don't want one. I'd rather Discovery stand on its own coming out of the gate.
speak for yourself, I for one am hoping for a young, time traveling Captain Robau

but yeah, a dignified passing of the torch is difficult to pull off, it can easily feel stilted and forced

On the other hand, if you treat your torch passing like a lady... She'll always bring ya home.
