Spoilers Dark Matter - Season 2

Actually, once it clicked that Nyx sounds close to Nil which = Zero, and that Devon rhymes with seven, the numerology / namerology of the show made more sense to me. :P

Mark

But wouldn't the Android be Seven? And shouldn't there be an Eight?

Besides, Nyx is the Greek goddess of night -- born of Chaos and the mother of Hypnos, Erebus, and Thanatos, aka Sleep, Darkness, and Death. I think that's far more likely to be the intended basis of her name. Nyx is also the mother of the Fates and their brother Moros (Doom or Destiny), which might tie into the character's backstory with the group that predicts the future.

Another possibility for what happens to Devon is that he'll go through something similar to Dr. Franklin on Babylon 5 when he had his drug addiction and got stabbed in a scummy part of the station. That's just what it reminded me of.

Any bets on exactly who escaped from the Mirror Universe? Corso, Wexler, or the woman whose name I can't remember?

Apparently in this alternate universe, Khylen got a job in a galaxy far far away working for the RAC as a Level 6, instead of leading the mining colony our crew met back in last season's premiere... :)

Corso is probably the one who escaped. No double for him to worry about and his presence would have the biggest impact to the crew.

Were the other two killed off last season or not? I don't remember. Could be all three who made the alt-universe journey.

Nice to see One again, even if he was Corso.

It wasn't clear at first whether he was Corso or Cross, but I guess his willingness to nuke the colony proves he was Corso.

Her name is Tash, and the actress (Jessica Sipos) is the sister of the guy who plays (played?) Devon, Shaun Sipos. (And apparently their surname is pronounced "Sheeposh." It's Croatian.)

I couldn't tell whether it was meant to be the same mining colony or just a similar one. I mean, if this timeline differed only because Five wasn't onboard the Raza, then why wouldn't they have already wiped out that colony last year?

I'm inclined to agree. Until last night, I was thinking that they ditched Bendavid because he was a weak actor, but they keep bringing the guy back. So maybe they do want him to stick around as a recurring character. Although in that case, why go about it in such a convoluted way, killing off Corso Prime only to bring in Mirror Corso a few episodes later?

Yes, Wexler and Tash both died, as did their teammates Vons and Cain. Personally I'm hoping it's Tash who crossed over, though Corso seems more likely.

I'm going for the MU Android. There was something vaguely sinister sounding and "To be continued..."-ish about the way she said she owes MU Portia a "debt of gratitude" for "making me what I am." MU Portia wouldn't help her grow in any kind of positive way, and would probably teach her to be cruel, so I could see her starting some sort of android uprising or human genocide or something. Given the way our Android has taken on the more positive traits of the crew, their Android should take on the more negative traits of their crew, and yet she was entirely helpful, which is think might have been a ruse to gain our Raza crew's trust and appear harmless.

I read that scene differently. It's been established earlier in the season that the Android has emotions because she was modified to be more complex than service androids of her type, but it's been a mystery as to who did the modifications and why. The alternate timeline wasn't an "evil twin" universe, but just a slightly alternative path that history might have taken if Five hadn't been aboard and erased the crew's memory. So events predating the start of the series are probably the same in both universes. So when the Alt-Android said that Portia Lin was the one who made her what she was, it implies that the same was true in the main universe -- that Portia reprogrammed the Android, but her reasons for doing so were erased with the rest of the crew's memories. So that scene wasn't meant to establish something about the Alt-Android, it was meant to advance the ongoing mystery about "our" Android and why she was altered. Assuming it was Portia who reprogrammed the Android, the next step in solving the mystery is finding out why she did it.

Besides, why wouldn't the pre-memory-wipe android have been helpful? That was her function as a service android. The Raza crew may have been a bunch of murderers and rogues, but they'd still want their shipboard technology to be obedient and useful to them. This is simply a version of the Android that's closer to her original programming and function, because she, like the others, still retains her original memories and personality.

I love the finality with which you say that as if you know everything that has occurred over the past year in this alternate universe that we were just briefly introduced to.

I'm just repeating what they said in the episode. Six told Five that the key difference between realities was that she wasn't there to save Kal Varrick/Six's life and wipe the crew's memories. So the crew stayed evil, they killed Varrick, they probably started the war on Ferrous Corp's behalf, they blew up Rook and Dwarf Star Technologies, they helped Ryo retake the throne (without the delay caused by his memory wipe and his need to rediscover his situation), they probably met the real Corso on that station last season and let him kill Cross (assuming they didn't find Cross out themselves), they teamed up with Wexler's crew instead of turning on them, etc. It seemed evident to me that the intent of the writers was to show us how history would've unfolded without the memory wipe -- especially since Six explicitly said on camera that that was the key difference.

Checking online, I see that you're right on this (I thought the actress that played the female miner that Two ordered Wexler to let go was the same who played Rob Stewart's daughter in the premiere-it wasn't). It was also that damned warehouse that threw me off...it looked like the same one they used in the series premiere-I couldn't believe they'd use it again, and figured that it was the same colony. My bad. :(

Considering only several months have gone by timewise since the show started, it seemed plausible that the Raza's dealings with Ferrous Corp could have been delayed in this universe. Five discovered Six's cover had been blown and was marked for death just before they were going to deal with the colony, so without her onboard, killing a GA officer would encourage them to lay low for awhile...

Two things come to mind. Corso Prime didn't have a relationship with the Raza crew, and Mirror Corso does (even though they're alternate versions of the people he knew). And now he's loose about the galaxy with an FTL-capable Maurader, all the better to pop up unexpectedly whenever he wants.

My thought about Android-2's comment is that she is the way she is because she was somehow infected with Portia's nanites. Android-` probably has the same condition and those nanites will help save Two from her current condition.

Most likely, Corso. With or without Wexler and Tash. If they were able to free themselves, they may not have wanted to face AU Portia and Boone again after what happened with the nuke.

Agreed, we learnt something about the "regular" Android. It makes sense to me that Portia/Two would feel empathy for the Android, as both are synthetic organisms (though the Android is not flesh and blood). They have also been close, right from the start.

Some more things we learned: Varrick apparently sabotaged the engines (I originally thought this was referring to the S1 finale, but from Mallozzi's comments it has to be from before the pilot) which caused the Raza to malfunction in the pilot episodes. As a result, the ship woke the crew. Varrick also set the distress signal, presumably so that the GA could find them. Since the first ship to get to them fired missiles, it seems to have been another party that got to them first.

We also learnt that the Android can be disabled with a kill-phrase, and that she is programmed to wipe out the data stores on the Raza (and presumably, herself). This protocol was likely initiated, too, right before the pilot started, explaining why they had a hard time to learn anything from the ships computers, at the time. Why the Android was in the box is unknown; maybe that was part of the protocol, use the Android as a kind of booby-trap when unwary trespassers get curious.

It was more or less implied in S1 that the Raza has missile launchers (though no missiles to launch), but in the AU it would seem that Ferrous gave them nukes. The blink drive was also likely provided by Ferrous, who sourced it from Reynaud I suppose (maybe Five got caught before making it off with the keycard, in this version. Would also explain why she wasn't onboard). The Raza also is believed to be one of a kind, otherwise Truffault wouldn't have been shocked to see a second ship show up (which easily could have been a sister ship pretending to be The Raza).

My thought about Android-2's comment is that she is the way she is because she was somehow infected with Portia's nanites. Android-` probably has the same condition and those nanites will help save Two from her current condition.
Two's nanites are unlikely to be compatible with Android's own, given they have to work in a radically different environment. It's more likely that Portia did some reprogramming.

Edit: the shows CGI has really picked up this season, nice to see that even a show on a budget can do those kind of things.

It seemed pretty clear that it was the "evil" Android, Two and Three, since they were still on the alt Marauder, which instead of leaving the ship instead hitched a ride. Considering they're also the ones most likely to lead to interesting stories in the future (hence introducing evil dopplegangers who no longer have a means of jumping universes), well, that's definitely a safe bet.

Why the Android didn't notice that is beyond me. Though, of course, if the Android didn't notice that, you could argue that it didn't notice the "evil" Marauder leaving, boarding the "evil" Raza, then returning to hitch a ride with someone else onboard. But that's even more of a stretch.

I'm not quite sure Other Two and Three would have reason to abandon their universe. The Raza gang is the badass-est of the badasses, and even without a Blink drive, they'd still be in high demand from corporations not directly involved with the conflict betwwen Ferrous and Mikkei.
So, my money is on Corso, Wexler, and Trask....Corso led the mutiny and the other 2 were apart of it. They all know Portia wouldn't kindly drop them off on the nearest station of habitable planet. It is puzzling how the Alt Marauder managed to attach itself to our Raza. Perhaps, in addition to an FTL drive, it has other stealth capabilies?

In their universe, a major war was going on and they had multiple hostile forces hunting them down. And now, they didn't have a blink drive to insure their escape from sticky situations. Why would they want to return to that universe, instead of plunder and pillage in this one? Especially if it means they'd potentially have a chance to regain their blink drive.
