News coming 8/10?

If there's going to be a cameo, I think it should be a younger Scotty.

The MC see Pegg tinkering away on some transporter gizmo, and she starts chatting him up. He tells her he's working on a new/better transport re-sequence equation--less scrambled molecules. She offers to help test. So Pegg goes and stands on the transporter and she beams him out, waits a few seconds, and then rematerializes. Chris Doohan appears and they start chatting up as if nothing happened.

Pegg & CGI Doohan?

Eh... there's no real point debating any of this. It says it right there on the Wiki page:

"We wanted to paint a picture of Starfleet where we’re going to have new exciting aliens and also new imagining of existing aliens. We’re producing the show in 2016. We have to update the style of the effects, the style of the sets, the style of the makeup ... all of the other series have been produced [at a time that] isn’t as sophisticated as we are now with what we can do production-wise, we’re going to be reestablishing an entire look for the series—not only for the series, but for what we wanted to accomplish with Star Trek beyond this series."

Other than that, can we all agree that Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike would be the perfect cameo/send-off role for the pilot episode? :D
Little gives me more hope for this series than that quote.

And this:

"Think about what’s happening in America, and think about the promise of Star Trek, and what we can all do to get there," he told the crowd before ending the panel by asking all the fans in attendance to take each other’s hands and “make a promise to leave this room with love, to leave this room with hope, to leave this room and take responsibility to craft a path to Gene Roddenberry’s vision."

This makes me even more hopeful for the new series!

I really want the show to stand on its own. I know that tradition has been to pass the torch with an established character (McCoy, Picard, Quark, Cochrane, Spock), but I can't think of anything that wouldn't be too cheesy. Trotting out Scott Bakula in old age makeup to pat the crew on the back would be goofy.

Greenwood as Pike and a quick shot of the Enterprise departing from wherever the Discovery is. A figurative passing of the torch from shows like TOS, TNG and ENT as well as the reboots to a new ship and crew.

Given once, people would just want Greenwood as Pike back all the time. That sort fan clamor seems to be annoying to production and stars who want to concentrate on their own egos. They'd only have that baffle plate rupture a little sooner. <draws finger across neck>

The female lead is purported to be a Lieutenant Commander and the story or stories told from her perspective (may or may not be true). As for a "...male Klingon Captain" it would have to be on an "enemy" Klingon starship and a recurring adversary. If this is supposed to take place 10 years prior to TOS, a Klingon would not be commanding a Federation ship.
Did Fuller actually say that a Klingon would be the captain of the USS Discovery, or that there would be a Klingon Captain in Star Trek Discovery? He might hold the rank of Captain in the Klingon Empire and have nothing to do with Starfleet.
