I do not like MCU films

Watching Marvel movies is like watching a (young) kids cartoon but with real live actors instead of animation. No threat, no suspense, no thrill. Plus they're so formulaic that if you've seen one you've seen them all. Give me Richard Donner's Superman, Tim Burton's Batman, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight, Brian Singer's X-Men, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, Alex Proyas' The Crow, heck even Ang Lee's Hulk! At least these directors have talent and vision!
Donner's Superman is more childish than anything in the MCU...
First of all, Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" came out in 1978, the Marvel Cinematic Universe started out in 2008. That's a 30 year difference. Cinema and audiences have matured since then.
Having said that there isn't a single stupid Marvel movie style joke in the entire film. Clearly you are mistaking Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie with Richard Lester's 2 Superman sequels.
Secondly, Donner's Lois Lane's death and Superman's turning back Earth/time scenes have more drama than the entire MCU movies combined.

To each their own. I personally love Captain America: The First Avenger and the drama that is there of him discovering his abilities. Avengers is an incredibly tense piece, especially when Coulson dies (who saw that coming?).

The point is, they are not as formulaic as they appear at first blush. They are not all great, but at least I know that the next one might be better.

YMMV.

I felt worse at the start of GOTG when Starlord watched his mom die than I did in Superman...mainly because I never understood why he loved Lois in the first place. Kidder was grating.
Again I think you are mistaking Donner's Superman with Lester's sequels. Kidder was fine in S:TM! :techman:

IMHO definitely lovable!

GOTG is a perfect example of MCU movies. A cartoon but with live action instead of animation: Dancing saplings and talking ducks! Great for the kiddies! That's what Disney's Marvel movies are all about.

Are you really arguing on one hand of the maturity found in Disney animation, and on the other calling Disney's live action Marvel films 'childish'?

Being both a DC and Marvel fan is hard, man. You constantly feel attacked by both sides, though consistantly being insulted that my tastes 'are childish' for preferring the films Marvel puts out is making me want to be involved less in the DC side. And its crazy since I prefer DC comics more lately by a wide margin and I want DC movies to improve.

I am sorry but I honestly fail to see the contradiction. Just because Disney/Marvel movies have dark moments/themes at times does not make them less aimed at small children.

Oh please, they are even more formulaic than the James Bond films.

So then in your opinion are Star Wars and Doctor Who kiddie shows, too, since they include things children might like as well?

There's nothing wrong with kiddie shows. I like kiddie shows! But I won't claim that the Ninja Turtles (which I love) are mature viewing material.

Perhaps now they are, but Captain America certainly had a different feel, Thor did not end in the quintessential comic book way.

There are distinct differences to a lot of them, which is why I don't take them as a lump sum whole.

The only Disney/Marvel movie that (for me) tried to break the mold so far was "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier". The fights were close and personal and I felt it had a real Cold War political thriller vibe. Until the last act with all the CG flying carrier stuff where it descended to the cartoon level again.

Really? You didn't get a different feel from the first Captain America? From Thor? Even from Avengers, which really takes its time to build up the team creation?

If not, ok. But, I'll not take the MCU as a sum total of its parts. I'll take each film on an individual basis.

I'm a huge Captain America fan. I tried to like the first movie but for me it was a let down. The second one was way better. Joe Johnston should stick to directing Jumanji movies. The first Thor was OK-ish. You can tell Sir Kenneth Branagh really struggled to give us something with the material. He gave us the only Marvel villain worth writing home about. No wonder they stick Loki in all their movies since. As for the first Avengers it's good but overrated. Best comic book picture ever? Pleaaaase!!!

Well, care to give an example of "the best comic book movie ever?"

I agree that Thor struggled but it also was not the typical film that the MCU is painted as being. Captain America: The First Avenger really needs to be appreciated as a WW2 propaganda piece in order to fully enjoy the tone of the film. And, then, in a rather interesting move, they show him coming in to the contemporary world, which is a theme that comes up in Avengers.

Iron Man can hardly be called a typical film, because Tony Stark is not a typical hero. So, again, these broad strokes don't fit every single film.

So you're basically admitting you can't stand CBMs that embrace their comic-bookiness and you need everything to be that sell-out "grounded" stuff.

You're right, I hate that sell-out grounded stuff. I much prefer fake CG helicarriers shooting each other because that's what the Captain America comics are all about!

It's blended with the Arnim Zola computer and the Helicarriers, comic book stuff. The stuff you admit you can't stand.

People like you shouldn't be watching CBMs if you hate the wondrous.

If the Joker's mother was named Martha, would Batman keep fighting him if he found out?
Never mind that, what if the Joker just mentioned the name Martha during one of his encounters with Batman?
Joker: And she screamed and pleaded with me to stop, but I just said Martha my dear-
Batman slams the Joker against the wall and gets in his face.
Batman: WHY ARE YOU SAYING THAT NAME?!!!
