(New?) CG NX-01 alternate concepts

F. King Daniel

Came across these randomly on Facebook. I've never seen them before. Apparently, they're from the instruction manual of a Bandai model kit.

I like the top one (which admittedly looks a lot more like a re-imagined NCC-1701 than a prequel ship), second one's okay and the 3-nacelled ringship is just bizarro.

I believe the first one is featured in next year's Ships of the Line calendar, but the other two are new to me. Interesting designs, I'm kind of partial to the ring-ship, although I agree it looks weird. Still, assuming they still stuck with the idea of Vulcans flying in ring-ships, that could have helped sell the idea that Earth and Vulcan were close allies.

I remember these from way back when. IIRC, the producers always wanted NX-01 to be instantly recognizable as "a Star Trek ship" (something with a saucer section and nacelles).

These are old pictures, they were posted on the BBS long ago and supposedly come from the diamond select, art asylum electronic toy ship (not model kit) which came out in 2002 or 2003.

nx-01 was quite good looking. I only dislike the nacelle pylons.
I sae some other concept, the one I prefer was one of J. Eavans, a draw done for the ship of the episode "the expanse", showing a muscled version of the nx-01, problably not used because it looks more advanced, bigger, and more powerful than heros' ship

Link?
Sounds very interesting!

Isn't the one on the left looks a lot like the new ship glimpsed (presumably the USS Shenzhou) in the latest teaser for Star Trek: Discovery
That's right, Daniel and that's what people people are saying over on the Discovery board too. Which is funny because Eaves said he didn't like the design. People also compare it to the USS Mawson fan club design he did.

Back to your original post, I found these pictures which I thought you might be interested in. They are concepts for the NX from the eaglemoss magazine which are meant to be the same as the ones above but obviously Doug had to redo the CGI modals from scratch since he lost the originals when his hard drive crashed years back.

It is close, but I think Eaves had one similar--

.

The Eaglemoss NX-01 refit also has that art, IIRC.

Cool, glad it wasn't the NX though. Very strong TOS vibe and it's a bit too much like a jet fighter.
