Excessive Criticism of "STAR TREK VOYAGER"

Right. Janeway asked if they could go to warp. She didn't ask about everything else. They went to warp then started on repairs. Not a huge stretch of the imagination
Do you think it's sensible to warp away when you have a ship so badly damaged? Shouldn't she instead remain still in space while all the people available are assigned the tedious tasks of crawling down the Jeffries tubes and repair each and every one of the circuits that have been fried? They're lucky they don't get a warp core breach right away.

If the ship was in decent enough shape to fly from where they stopped it to where the crew was stranded, it sounds like something was working before Janeway even boarded.

If you want an ep where they were flummoxed by need for repairs, look at The Gift where BORG sabotage continued despite the best Torres could do to clean it out.

yes, if the warp system is online then I think it's fine to warp away and proceed with repairs. If they thought there was a posibilty of a breach then that means that the propulsion system was not fully operational and they would not have gone to warp.

Yes, the Borg technology after Scorpion is still visible on the hull of the ship for a few episodes. And they also mention that some of the systems work better with the Borg stuff so they left some of it.

I don't agree. When your ship is damaged. You should first repair it before doing anything else. That's pretty much what Seven told Janeway in the Year Of Hell part II and she was right.

Warping away or not, nobody said the ship was in perfect working order. It is said that the ship has a lot of damage. My point is that the ONLY thing we are told is that warp is online. Tom tells Janeway that they sabaotaged several systems.

It's not reasonable to go toward unknown territories when your ship is as vulnerable as that, the next ship that shoots a popgun at them could very well tear the hull apart. But whoever said that Janeway was reasonable, right?

After looking at the transcript of the episode, it says the ship wasn't horribly damaged. The Kazon themselves didn't want to damage the ship much because they wanted to use it.

Tom's plan involved overloading the phasers:
PARIS [on monitor]: Doc, I hope you're receiving this because if you're not, I'm a dead duck. I'm piggybacking this message on a fake Kazon signal I'm sending to the Bridge. I'm betting they won't be monitoring your Emergency Medical channel. I'm bringing help, but you have to do something for us. When the attack begins, I need you to get the computer to block the discharge from the backup phaser power couplings. You got that? The backup couplings. I'm taking out the primary couplings myself, but I need those backups to overload when they switch to them. Don't do anything until the attack begins or they might notice. That's it for now. I'll be seeing you soon. I hope

They also said that backup systems were still onilne:
KAZON ENGINEER: Primary phaser power is down.
SESKA: Switch to backup systems.
KAZON ENGINEER: Confirmed. Phasers are locked on.
after that the phasers overload.

After that Tom and the Talaxians beam to the ship, Tom starts working on some issues:
PARIS: I'm sealing off the Bridge manually. I've got to get the computer back online. All Starfleet voice access has been disabled.
PAXIM: I'm reading a Kazon shuttle leaving the ship. There are also escape pods being launched.
PARIS: Forget them. We have more important things to do.

When Janeway comes back on the bridge, Tom tells her what they did:
PARIS: Welcome back, Captain.
JANEWAY: Well done, Lieutenant.
PARIS: I had a lot of help. The Talaxians, the Doc, Mister Suder.
KIM: Suder? We thought he was killed during the initial attack.
PARIS: No, he and the Doctor sabotaged the ship. Suder disabled the phasers before they killed him.

so shields are damaged but not completely down, phasers are overloaded. Other than that pretty much everything else is working. There's no reason they couldn't warp away and make those repairs.

And you think it's reasonable to move on to new territories given the number of aliens that shoot Voyager on sight without much warning if any simply for being there! I don't.

That's simply a matter of opinion, we could argue that for a decade. Everything they did involved risk.

To me that's not calculated risk, it's just plain craziness.
Again, that's going to be a matter of opinion. We could discuss dicisions from a "craziness" point of view forever we would probably never agree ;)

But if we're just talking about the level of damage to the ship, the episode shows the extent of the damage.

The phasers are out of order and how did Tom know that they wouldn't fire torpedoes?

I think that even if we go by your psychedelic idea that the ship wasn't damaged much, being deprived of weapons in the delta quadrant is a huge handicap, one that could very well be fatal.

my "psychadelic" idea that the ship wasn't damaged much.....the idea that is based on things said in the episode which I just posted. They SAID what was damaged. It was just the phasers

A few people were killed when the phasers overloaded. It's unreasonable to think that that would happen without further damage to the ship.

"unreasonable" is also a matter of opinion. Again we could keep debating this forever. You are set on your opinion that there was much more damage than what was flat out stated in the episode. I'm clearly not going to sway you even by presenting facts from the episode. That's cool, to each their own.

There are no "facts" from the episode. When Crazy Kes completely destroyed the bulkhead of the ship on two decks, Janeway didn't think much of it, since she let it happen for a second time. Obviously Janeway is used to repairs being done by magic and in an instant while warping away at maximum speed.

by facts I mean what they stated. I posted them earlier. If you want to ignore that, that's fine. I can accept that they made repairs off screen. Some people can't.

ugh, still can't edit....in this example, at the end there is no mention of them "warping away at maximum speed" this is an assumption on your part. We don't know what speed they were traveling at the end of this episode.

at the end of Basics they left at warp 8. It has been stated several times that their top cruising speed is warp 9.975, so again they were not "warping away at maximum speed"
