Excessive Criticism of "STAR TREK VOYAGER"

Many Voyager episodes don't make any sense. Take innocence for example. It's completely inane. I mean they are born old and get younger!!! How the hell does that work from a practical point of view? Do they grow in coffins as soon as you built them and walk off as soon as they are done?

What, you never saw Benjamin Button?

DS9 got away with it by having the rest of the Trekverse to play with and then their Galactic War storyline, stuff VOY couldn't do thanks to the premise.

But you still get criticized no matter what, there's nothing that pleases the audience even remotely.

It's like Living Witness, people can say what they want NOW but when it aired the number one thing pointed out was the whole "the EMH can't ever be backed up!". Nothing else mattered to the audience but that one petty little thing, not the acting or the story or message. All the episode got for its troubles was "The EMH can't ever be backed up!"

Meanwhile DS9 gives us the Female Quark episode and no one blinks an eye and finds it entertaining.

Not everyone found the Female Quark entertaining. I remember quite a few complaints about it.

My headcanon is that they recovered the EMH from the Equinox and used it as template for back ups. That's probably where the training hologram from Critical Care came from too.

I know people that hate it and others that love it.

The point being that without a clear indication about Voyager's state the deciding factor should have been how his girlfriend and his parents felt. He didn't even check on his mom and dad and that clearly shows that there is something wrong with him. Look how quickly he became a criminal, had he failed he could have spent the rest of his life paying for it.

I think that is where the episode was lacking is any sort of emotional choice or connection on Harry's part. I think if it felt like there was an actual draw for him to stay on Earth, and have to make a choice to return to Voyager then the episode could have carried a lot more punch.

Instead, he runs back to Voyager the moment he gets the opportunity. What a conflict.

Yes, DS9 took risks. VOY didn't for a while. It showed.

"The Audience" isn't a thing.

Ha-ha...no. That episode gets torn to shreds in every Trek circle I inhabit, while "Living Witness' gets held up as one of VOY's best.

Exactly the same as voyager. We don't know exactly how long repairs at any given time took. Episodes do not take place directly back to back (unless specifically said so)

When Janeway still has dirt on her face from the current adventure, it's either that the repairs didn't take long at all or that she has very bad hygiene.

Sure "Living Witness" was one of VOY better episodes, but that doesn't mean it doesn't get a free ride on not receiving critism about the EMH suddenly having a backup. Sure you could say they found a way to back him up between when we were last told they couldn't and that episode. But then the point becomes if they can do it once, they can do it again. As good as "Living Witness" is it's just another example of the writers ignoring limitations they themselves set hoping the viewer wouldn't notice.

One can like something at the same time as critising it.

Just watched the last 10 minutes. At the end Janeway asks if the ship can sustain flight and Kim answers her that propulsion is online. So they go to warp towards the AQ. Not really seeing a huge issue here personally. They set a course then start making repairs.

But the damage to the ship was enormous. Remember that she's been purposely sabotaged to kill the people inside by overloading. It likely fried every single circuit on board. How long do you think it takes to repair that kind of damage? Do you think it can be done by pushing buttons or do you need people crawling down the Jefferies tubes for days, even weeks to do that?

Tom had the Talaxians beamed on board. They could have started working on it right away or at least get enough done for him to be able to go and rescue the crew. Then they could have got the heck out Dodge and worked on the rest of the repairs later.

But where does iy say that it didn't take them weeks to make repairs? All janeway asked was if their propulsion was working. Then Tom tells her about the sabotage. Just because they're done with repairs in the next episode doesn't mean that it hasn't taken then weeks. Maybe some people feel like they should have taken time out of a 40 minute episode to show things like peoplr crawling around replacing wires and panels and painting the hull. For me i would rather use that time for the story and just make the assumption that the repairs are being made off screen. Same as how they don't talk about taking a poop. I know they do it even if they don't actually say they are anywhere in the episide.

Right. Janeway asked if they could go to warp. She didn't ask about everything else. They went to warp then started on repairs. Not a huge stretch of the imagination
