Star Trek The Exhibition beams to Blackpool

To be quite honest, what a ludicrous place to have it.
I definitely agree, I can think of a fair few better places to hold it.

Edit: TBH tho it's been a good long while since I've been to Blackpool, so I may be being a little unfair about it. As long as the exhibition is good I don't care where it's held.

I live not too far from Blackpool seafront where the exhibition's going to be sited. If it's the venue I'm thinking of, it's the site of a failed animatronic dinosaur attraction, and the site of a former long running Dr Who attraction- both of which were done on the cheap, and were pretty nasty towards the end of their runs. A lot of attractions in the resort have big ideas and signally fail to deliver, going bust in fairly short order, so you have been warned.....

Sad to say, but as the custodians of Star Trek, CBS, assuming it negotiated to have the exhibition in Blackpool, has no fucking clue about anything. A few CBS suits need to be sent to Blackpool for a day so they can see what a run down, delapidated shit hole it is. The idea amongst foreigners that Blackpool's some sort of rich, glorious, neon lit mecca like Vegas, couldn't be further from the truth.

Is there anything you have a positive word about? Did a sea gull nick your chips in Blackpool when you were a small child?

I used to frequent blackpool in the 90s. I'm afraid it's far worse than it was then. Last went when the lights were on, what a sad place it is now. It wasn't exactly great in the 90s -- a long time since the heydey of the 50s and 60s.

I went to this last week, has anyone else been yet?

I live just under a two hour drive from Blackpool, I would probably say if you live further away than that it's not really worth it. But I had a day off with nothing at all to do, really nice weather, and I've never actually even been to Blackpool before so thought why not. Therefore I made use of the day and got to have a little look round the town and walk up the beach, go up the Tower, etc. The town itself is a bit run down I suppose, and fair to say there were plenty of "characters" walking about.

The reason I'd say don't make too much of an effort to go is you're over and done with in well under an hour, I think it was maybe 50 minutes tops I was in there, and I was taking my time having a good look at everything and reading all the information stuff. And £15 I thought was also pretty pricey for what you got, I'd say it should be a tenner tops.

So one of the main first things is a random selection of costume exhibits from across the franchise. This to me was the best thing as I've never been to a convention or anything like that before, so to see such memorable things like this up close and be really able to examine the detail was awesome. Shinzon's outfit from Nemesis stood out for me, along with the classic Klingon and Romulan uniforms and the ENT uniforms too. Some of them were looking pretty worn out though, but I suppose that's just degradation over time and not really the exhibition's fault.

Next was just pictures of all the Enterprise's and info on their launch dates, captain's etc. And later on were big cast shots of all 6 casts (including JJTrek) and who they play, their ranks, positions etc. Both these things were nice but fairly filler.

Then there's a selection of random props, some of which are cool and neat to see, some not so much. There's a transporter bay replica, and near the end a TOS bridge "replica." Which again as I've never been to a con was really cool, but the back wall is just a picture, the only things actually "real" are the Captain's chair and nav & con positions. So yeah it was quite surreal and awesome to sit in that seat (you can take as many pictures as you want, it was dead when I went.) but just saying don't be expecting a total full bridge mock up.

Then there's a few posters of the three JJverse movies and then you're done and into the gift shop, where the prices are most amusing! £30 each for the Eaglemoss ship models, when they were £10 each on release and still are on their website. And no accompanying magazine either.

So overall I'm glad I went and enjoyed it a lot while it lasted, I can live with the price and had a nice little day out around it. But if you were going to Blackpool just for that, especially from far away, I think you may be somewhat disappointed.

I can think of better places to visit than Blackpool. Why anyone would go there is a mystery to me. It's cold, wet, windy I hate Blackppol even more in the toruist season where it takes you twice a s long to go half as far.

To be fair I went last Friday and it was an absolutely lovely sunny day. But as I say I've never been before, but don't think I'll be in a rush to go back there for anything. I live nearer the east coast than west, and they're are lot nicer beaches and seaside towns that side.

I visited about month ago when it first opened. We had a good day and really enjoyed the exhibition. We have a free journey back as they hadn't received all the props on time. Blackpool gets a bad reputation but it's not as bad as everyone thinks it's not nice walking about the promenade with the amount of stag and hen doos but thats not Blackpools fault it's the people that visit. It is an unusual place to have the exhibition though a major city would have been more predictable.

there was a Dr Who exhibition not so long ago so Trek isn't too unusual there :)

I'm not a fan of Doctor Who, I didn't know they had an exhibition in Blackpool though. I was surprised when I saw the Star Trek one was at Blackpool. I don't drive so Blackpool is one of the harder places for me to get to.
But we made it there and had a brilliant day. You can book tickets up to the end of November so I'll definitely be making a return visit before it finishes :)
