The WB/DC Cinematic Universe Thread

Not to mention the fact that if everyone else is getting a solo movie it only makes sense for Batman to too.

The same goes for Black Widow, but she hasn't gotten a solo movie yet...

MCU wont give her a solo film. its harsh but its a reality. Hollywood has hardly produced successful action female heroes and I am not talking of hunger games.

After the failure if supergirl ,aeon flaux and Electra. MCU is not confident enough...YET.

They're confident enough for a Captain Marvel solo movie, a character they haven't even introduced yet. Same for WB/DC and Wonder Woman.

Uhm, Captain Marvel...?:vulcan:

Don't be ridiculous. Do the names Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley mean nothing? Lara Croft? Beatrix Kiddo? And why not talk of Katniss, of Jennifer Lawrence in general, or ScarJo in general? There are plenty of successful female action heroes.

And saying that the failure of a few movies with female leads proves that female leads don't work is inane. Nobody would say that male leads don't work if a movie with a male lead flops. It's just a feeble excuse for Hollywood sexism.

That movie Lucy did quite well last year and it was a female-led actioner. If only the leading actress from it could be persuaded to play a Marvel character. ;)

Seconded. Those names are not leaving my memory any time soon either. The trend has been building outside of "classic" superhero-genre projects for a while. A couple of decades, in point of fact. And if your definition of the genre has sufficient elasticity to it, these films do qualify despite not originating in comic books.

It's time.

(If it turns out that Johansson prefers Netflix as a venue for her Black Widow project(s) to the cinema, of course, that's her choice to make, and I hope Marvel will run with it.)

The Flash: Kiersey Clemons Top Choice for Female Lead, Possibly Iris West

“The Flash” director Rick Famuyiwa is already zeroing in on a familiar face for the DC film’s female lead.

Sources tell Variety that Famuyiwa’s top choice for the female lead in “The Flash” is Kiersey Clemons, who also starred in Famuyiwa’s critically acclaimed dramedy “Dope.“

The film stars Ezra Miller, who first appeared as the superhero in WB’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

While details are still vague on who the character may be, insiders say it is likely to be Iris West, the tough-as-nails journalist and friend of Barry Allen, the alter ego of the Flash.

“The Flash” had to overcome the hurdle of replacing the film’s original director, Seth Grahame-Smith, who parted ways with the project over creative differences. The film, however, appears to be able to meet its start date. Production is expected to commence sometime this year.

Is The Flash show influencing the movie? We might be getting another Iris payed by an African American. This would be another win for diversity.

I'm not really familiar with any of those actresses, but I like to trust the casting people that they know what they're doing.
I know I posted before that I didn't think they needed to cast a Black actress as Iris, but I really wouldn't be bothered if they went with Clemons.

Warner Bros. Puts ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel Into Active Development
Henry Cavill‘s Superman will fly solo again in a sequel to “Man of Steel” going into active development at Warner Bros., a person familiar with the project told TheWrap.

Released in 2013, produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder, “Man Of Steel” earned $668 million at the global box office and launched the ambitious DC Cinematic Universe. This summer’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which picked up where that film left off, has pulled in $872 million.

Despite Superman’s battle with Batman, DC has been silent on a sequel to “Man of Steel” featuring Superman solo, leading many frustrated fanboys to believe that another film wasn’t going to happen. But a person close to the project told TheWrap that Superman is a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance.

Yeah, its Superman. They were always going to do a sequel.

Oh yeah, there was no way that wasn't going to happen. I'm surprised it's taken this long for us to hear about it.

While I don't disbelieve this, the source is an unnamed "person familiar with the project", there's no official confirmation yet. Let's keep this in mind.

Anyone spot the entry in one of the prison files that apparently referred to the fate of Robin ? I didn't, but apparently -

Jason Todd killed by Harley Quinn

Which would be unexpected, as I understood that :

Jason Todd is actually The Joker.

Anyone ?

If they intend it to be one of the unallotted 2018/19 entries they should be hiring someone to write/direct it sooner rather than later, so more info should come in the near future if this is true.

I hope it is, would be great to have the 2018 one be the Batman solo, and 2019 the Superman sequel.

Yes. We discussed it in another thread, and someone retorted what happened in the movie incorrectly. This is the scene in question regarding Robin. It says she's an "accomplice to the murder of Robin". Not that she killed him herself.

As for the Joker's identity, Ayer himself debunked the rumor that he was really Jason weeks ago.

Cool - thanks !

I wonder if Man of Steel 2 (for lack of an actual title) will bump any of DC's announced titles off of the current slate. Is Shazam really ever going to happen any time soon? Does Cyborg really need a solo movie?

^^
Some shuffling is very likely, considering there's been talk of Superman 2, Booster Gold, Suicide Squad 2, Lobo, Batman solo, Harley Quinn solo, Birds of Prey, JL Dark and Titans movies... and one would hope if WW does well next year there will be talk of WW2 ;)
