    Hey, thanks again guys!

    Messy Galileo concept anyone?

I will not apologize for doodling this at work, since it only took a few minutes. :P

Also, I'm considering doing away with the grids on the nacelles, and maybe the engineering hull, and just having them on the saucer. It kind of depends on what we decide they are though. Any thoughts?

Yes it was about 2 minutes, rough estimate though. ;)

Anyway, I redid those thingys on the front of the engineering hull. This is more what I was going for.

One of the things I've thought about would be a rounded bridge like observation area in place of the TMP torpedo tubes.

    It might be something new.

I think you have struck a wonderful balance so far. The biggest flaw I see in Enterprise re-do's is that they pile on the detail making the ship look so busy and complicated. As you know the TOS Enterprise had very little skin detail. Granted, these are more sophisticated times and SOME detail is necessary, but smooth and sleek should always be the goal and you have achieved that.
The wonderful thing about Jeffries' detail work (even on the phaser) is that every detail looked like it actually DID something. It wasn't simply "oh that looks kinda cool" like the NuTrek phaser which looks like a Flash Gordon ray gun. When you look at the original Jeffries phaser you think "wow, what does that button do?" "What happens when you turn that nob?" "wow, it comes apart too?"

It is the same with the Enterprise.

    THAT is good design.
    Form AND function.

    Keep up the EXCELLENT work!
    (Love the Galileo too)
    :)

^ Thanks for the feedback! ^
It's definitely really hard to keep the design simple, yet modern. Just like you said, I try and create details that have purpose. For instance, I was thinking the raised panels on the nacelles are either extra exhaust systems, or easy access to machinery for drydock use. The hard part about modeling this is I'm designing as I go, making it take 50 times longer than modeling from blueprints.

Speaking of, I've started rebuilding the mesh. This is to improve topology and reduce face count (currently at 800,000!). So standby......

Awesome. I could totally tell you were putting a lot of thought into it, and Rome can't be built in a day (even a 20th Century one) ;)

Looking forward to more pics :)

Whoops, I've posted this project to so many places, I forgot about this site!

Anyway, I took a very long break from modeling (2 years?!) but I'm just getting back in the game. I blocked out the rest of the ship, and now I am working on rebuilding the mesh with better topology. Even after this long, I still like where this version is going, which is surprising for me.

Really love what you're doing with this. You've added some nice detailing but kept it simple and not glaring.

Part one of the rebuild: the bussards.

I think they resemble the original a little more now. Plus I was able to simplify them, which is always good.
