Galaxy Quest fan films - time to rise up??

I'd love to do the 20 years before the movie style Galaxy Quest in Video but then why call it Galaxy Quest?

If you think the Beryllium sphere is a musical instrument, you might be a Thermian.

I know I'd heard about a possible TV show, but were they actually thinking about using the original cast?

Yep! Sam Rockwell said they were all jazzed up for it, and then Rickman passed and that basically torpedoed the whole thing.

Shame, too, it would have been great to have two Trek-like shows on TV. Trek back on TV, and the Trek parody. Alas...

I don't see the point in going to Galaxy Quest to make fan films. Just make your own Star Trek "knock off" if you will. New designs, new wardrobe, come up with a fake-history for the organizations, politics, alien species. Just using the basic "Trek" framework of a space adventure aboard a deep-space ship. There's nothing against that. That's what I ultimately decided to do with some of my animation stuff after word was getting around that CBS might start going after fan productions. Yeah, it's a bummer... But that's life. :)

I could be way off base here. It felt like the announcement generated some excitement for Amazon and then quickly fell down the excitement list. As a writer for an audio drama version of Galaxy Quest I followed it for a while and watched it drop down the list.
Studios somehow feel there is a huge extra cost in producing science fiction, Sure when you compare science fiction to a few people sitting in a room talking but who really gets excited with reality junk. Fan films have proven time after time that Science fiction productions can be produced in a cost effective method if you pay attention to real scripts with plots over tons of pretty pictures.
I agree, why attempt to recreate a cult movie with a thin following, it's a simple 4 member bridge crew, engineer, guest stars and random ships crew that show up if needed with a whole galaxy filled with adventures.

I'd love to see a GQ "mirror-universe" episode. Everybody would have beards, including Sigourney's character.

One of the fake episodes made up for the movie had a mirror-universe style episode where the ship ran into (literally, I think) an opposite version of itself and Weaver's character ended up fighting her mirror self.
