So for a few years now superhero movies have become the thing in Hollywood, in a notorious fickle environment they have been consistent money earners and some of them downright massive hits at the box office (especially Marvel movies).
They have launched or re-launched careers for actors that were at best only known in passing (before Iron Man who of the teenager/20s crowd knew of Downey Jr.). They made big stars out of Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth (to name a few) and some like Tom Holland (Spiderman) are on the verge of breaking it big.
They are also attracting more on more character actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Hopkins and now Tilda Swinton who you would normally not see in a big action blockbuster.
Now i was wondering if the current Hollywood climate is like this that it has become necessary for actors to get a starring role in a superhero movie in the hopes to get wider exposure or is the hope still there that an actor who has done some films in the past can still break it big with one huge performance?
Do you think character actors feel obliged to get a role in a superhero movie to cash in and give themselves the star power to then be able to push through smaller movies that would be more their cup of tea?
Along these lines i was wondering if superhero movies have become a crutch in Hollywood, a sort of necessary "evil" to have an A List career or is it a good way for young or less well known actors to make it big with a short string of movies that have built in audiences so they can have more freedom once their multi movie contract has finished?
