Hideous. They used the ugly Ralph McQuarrie concept art. Single ugliest Starfleet ship ever designed.

Love the look of the ship.

The triangular hull reminds me a lot of the Klingon D7 cruiser and judging from comments made by other fans I am not the only who made the connection. The militaristic and slightly tribal music might indicate that the Klingons play a large role in this new series. Also, near the end of the teaser as the words"Star Trek Discovery" disappear the sound of a cloacking device can be heard.

I love the fact that ship is a carbon copy (and homage to) Ralph McQuarrie's concept Enterprise.

I think it is way awesome they did that, and I am so glad they didn't use that hideous f***ing Daedalus Class. I love the title\ship name. I don't think they could have picked a better one that was more Star Trek-y, as well as the fact it pays tribute to another space shuttle.

Personally, if I had to go just by the registry, and the fact the saucer seems to have styling queues we also see on the Franklin, if I were a betting man, I would say this is a post-Enterprise/pre-Narrada incursion series.

Bloody flippin' hell, this is just going to be Enterprise (the series) 2.0, isn't it? :( Ugly recycled ship design, TOS prequel setting... Let's be realistic and not have any real hopes for this.

It's cool that the ship has some even indirect relationship to previous Trek.

Also, there are two famous spaceships named Discovery: The US space shuttle and the 2001:ASO ship.

You know almost nothing about the show.

To me it seems Fuller doesn't want to reveal the exact timeline because it'll be in multiple timelines.

Well the CGI looks shit, but I guess this is just test footage and not finished CGI.

    Apologies to Ralph McQuarrie.

I think it's just an early concept teaser. I'm sure the CGI in the final product will be a lot better.

If you ignore the Intrepid and Oberth classes and the DS9 kitbashes (such as that Constitution / Intrepid mashup), then I agree with you.

Forgot about Oberth. That design doesn't work at all. Besides that this ship is the worst. I prefer even Franz Joseph's work over this.

    Horrible looking ship.

From the ship and logo, I am guessing the series will have a "used future" look, and be set post-Nemesis in a period of decline.

Just think of the opening crawl from Star Wars: "It is a period of civil war." ;)

I don't mind the ship but I agree with the rest of your post and I wonder if the low number ship designation may be a red herring to throw us all off the scent. Perhaps the ship is an old one in a modern post-Nemesis period. "The Discovery was the last of the..", "Fleeing the Romulan tyranny, the last Star Fleet vessel, Discovery..."

But then I think Fuller has more about him than to do Star Trek with a bucket load of BSG/Babylon 5 tropes?

    Doesn't he?

I hope not, I'm so sick of the klingons. They should be used occasionally like the vulcans in TNG.

If they do go this way, I'm pretty sure Fuller would keep in mind Trek's essential optimism. It would ultimately be about hope, not doom and despair.

My first thought was to question whether it might not actually be a post-tng era where Federation and Klingon ship designs are somewhat merged, though I mainly dismissed that, thinking that it probably was far more inspired by the Delta shape itself, than by old Klingon ships.

Still, rewatching it with that music more in mind, that could actually be the case. Especially with the title being Discovery and the general setup of the trailer feeling like a really big, important send-off, I could almost see it as a newly hyperadvanced Federation with the Klingons and others completely integrated making the first steps to intergalactic exploration. It could combine the best of both the TOS and TNG eras, maybe even a bit of the Voyager/lost ship style storyline, but done properly this time.

Then again, it's probably just a ten second visual to make people excited and has little or nothing to indicate about the plot...

I like the copper coloring of the ship. Even if they tweak or change the design, I hope they keep the color. It reminds me of the poster included in TMP's soundtrack album.
