All the movie Batmen so far have followed the "movie cop" rule where mowing down dozens of anonymous henchmen without a second thought is totally normal, but when you come to the main bad guy, suddenly the law is important and the good guys "bring him to justice".

In movie world henchmen aren't real people, they're obstacles so they don't count. ;)

There's actually a scene in the Ultimate Cut that's similar to that, only you know, serious.
It's the encounter with the dead branded guy's wife and kid that nudges Superman to go after Batman.

Did they? Keaton didn't seem to give a rat's about bringing his bad guys in alive, henchman or rogues. Kilmer (from what I recall) doesn't kill henchman but does "trick" Two-Face into falling to his death. Clooney...hell if I remember, but I don't recall him killing anyone. Bale didn't tend to directly kill anyone, but he didn't seem to care much one way or the other.

Affleck and Keaton are the only ones where I recall them really digging in and killing with reckless abandon. As much stick as I give Affleck's Bat and his regard for life, he'll never equal Keaton setting off bombs between the legs of goons, burning clowns alive, and attaching dynamite to fat guys. ;)

It's kinda hard to take a lot of the henchmen deaths in the Keaton movies particularly seriously because there's such an over-the-top flavor to the entire thing. But it's hard to even do much hand-waving when, at the beginning of his final fight with the Joker, he says, "I'm going to kill you."

Not only did Clooney not kill anyone, he didn't even have any of his villains die by "accident." At the end of the movie, Mr. Freeze & Poison Ivy are both safely incarcerated at Arkham and Bane has shrunk down to normal size when his Venom tube was disconnected.

Bale may not have directly killed anyone but he certainly showed a frequent reckless disregard for collateral damage. I'm sure there were more than a few casualties when he blew up the League of Shadows HQ. He frequently crushed other vehicles in the Tumbler. And then there's that bit in The Dark Knight when he's in the Bat-Pod and he uses its guns to clear a path by blowing up all the parked cars in his way. He's just assuming that all of those parked cars are empty. (He needs a helmet with an infrared sensor like Iron Man to tell him when buildings & vehicles are actually empty and when they're not.) As Alfred said, "It's a miracle no one was killed!"

Does anyone know when (if ever) the Ultimate Edition will be rentable? The Blu Ray has finally come out, but it seems you can only rent the theatrical cut...

I just saw the 1989 movie "Batman" recently. I liked Keaton's performance, but Affleck's Batman made him look like a pussycat to me.

My local redbox had it.

Anyway, after watching this, I have to admit that I really did end up enjoying it more than I expected. Superman really doesn't do anything, but I see this more as a Batman film than anything at this point and it did Batman well. Hell, I though Batfleck would be horrible and I even liked him.

Lex was annoying. I still hope that they have his father show up and he's the real Lex we know and love (and played by Bryan Cranston).

Yeah. My local grocery stores box had it displayed last night. I think it's a redbox. I'll check next time I'm out there.

Lex grew on me.

Like a fungus.

That is exactly how I have always felt about Lex Luthor . . . no matter who is portraying him.

I have a question. Is the "Ultimate Edition" only on a Blu-Ray disc, or is it also on the regular DVD disc for the "Blu-Ray+HD+DVD" box set?

Finally saw it last night. Boring. Ponderous. Pretentious. Overserious to the point of eyerolling and unintentionally funny. A few good action scenes. D

SPOILERS! Don't read if you haven't seen the movie!

Finally watching now on DVD, currently at 1:52. I'm having no trouble following the story in the theatrical cut.

The "Martha" scene didn't bother me a bit.

Affleck is the best Bruce/Batman since Keaton.

"It's ok. I'm a friend of your son's." "I figured."

"Oh, shit."

The grapple gun is used to much better effect than ever before.

Even though Diana/WW didin't have much dialog, her scenes were awesome. Looking forward to her solo movie. I wonder how much Chris Pine got paid for that photo shot?

Lex's prison intake? Aw, yeah.

The casket was cool, and I noticed Lois' ring finger.

"The others like me ... why do you say they have to fight?" "Just a feeling."

Ooh, Lex dropped a major hint about what's to come.

Nice touch with the extra grave, and the vibrating soil.

Ok, overall I really dig this flick.

I don't know if I could sit through the Ultimate cut in a theater, though. Three hours is too much. Really, for an old guy like me anything over two hours is pushing it. I have to get up to pee.

For all the negatives I've read since the premiere, I have to say this is a pretty satisfying movie. I liked it a lot.

Then again, as a Trek fan I pretty much disagree with all the negatives I read about those movies too.

This has left me looking forward to the Justice League movie, and the spinoffs as well.

Just saw the Ultimate Edition. I was someone who liked the theatrical movie despite having major reservations. I'm afraid it didn't hold up well on a second viewing, even with the new footage. It's just so relentlessly bleak. The new scenes didn't help much. At least the last hour is pretty exciting.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Suicide Squad.
