it'll probably be 2019 but then again I think MI6 is aiming for 2017 (only 2 years after MI5), the new SW eps are 2 years apart (not the standard 3, plus theres the standalones inbetween) , STB is getting great reviews, so maybe they will fast track ST4.

Maybe Hemsworth could play Kirk's son? Or -- it could introduce NUBaldy and Beardy on the Enterprise-D, or the big bad could be the Borg from the future with Locutus (I'm being controversial aren't I?!)

This would be the perfect opportunity. If they can travel to the past of an alternate dimension, they can travel to the future.

Shatner had his chance to be part of the first reboot movie. He passed on it. Pine is now Kirk, and doesn't need Shatner to fall back on.

i find it ironic that second tos movies dealt with Khan the third one is dealing with the destruction of the Enterprise and now the fourth one may have to deal with Time travel.

They don't have to go the time travel route at all. The Kelvin timelines mirror universe could still have George Kirk alive and well. A freak accident and the two universes go at it. This could easily happen. Think Jennifer Sisko being alive in the Prime timelines mirror universe.

They don't have to go the time travel route at all. The Kelvin timelines mirror universe could still have George Kirk alive and well. A freak accident and the two universes go at it. This could easily happen. Think Jennifer Sisko being alive in the Prime timelines mirror universe.

Probably better to go that or a similar route and avoid the fact that by the time this movie is released, Hemsworth will have aged a decade. Hmm, assuming this movie gets released in 2019, this could be a good way to celebrate the Kelvin Timeline's tenth anniversary. Just make sure Faran Tahir is along for the ride. We really do need more Captain Robau.

George Kirk is supposed to be 30+ years older now. I doubt they will bring in Hemsworth in old age makeup.

Yes JJ can finally get Shatner in. Once you open that door of bringing back a dead character, they may have thrown around the idea of Shatner being included. It would have to be something meaningful to the story.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (July 18, 2016) – Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot today announced that the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will return to the big screen for another voyage.

In the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.

Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in 2009’s “STAR TREK,” will return to the space saga as George Kirk to star alongside Pine.

The remaining cast is expected to return.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay. J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce through Bad Robot Productions. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance will executive produce.

It's amazing how quick this is. Not just a 4th film but that Hemsworth is part of the official announcement. Though being a returning character it would have been impossible to hide it for long. This might be the earliest we have known a major part of the plot for a Trek film ever. Other than obviously somehow Star Trek III was going to be about Spock returning to life!
