Star Trek New Voyages sets open to public for tours licensed by CBS. And, predictably...

Is that Comic Sans?

Sorry for the tangent - just - I can't even.

I just knew Alec was going to have something to say about the set tours. Are the comments on the side there about Alec or James Cawley?

I'm getting up to speed reading the new fan film guidelines.
http://www.startrek.com/fan-films

And of course LFIM's petulant butt-hurt dismay to those guidelines.
http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...-fan-film-guidelines-20160623-snap-story.html

Did LFIM & Co really think any formal guidelines would be based on their whims to steal CBS/P's IP while deriving a direct financial benefit from said IP theft? Willfully deluded doesn't even begin to describe the level of stupid over at Axanar Land Sanitarium.

Maybe he located a building, and goes on to claim he secured the lease because that's just a formality of no real consequence.

Kinda like he located IP property to profit from, and goes on to claim he secured the rights because that's just a formality of no real consequence.

I saw this update from Alec earlier today and was both stunned and also, simultaneously, not surprised at all.

The gall of this guy. The unmitigated, shameless gall.

Alec Peters has always craved the spotlight. That's not a terrible or out of the ordinary thing; the terrible and out of the ordinary thing, that truly belies his own personal madness, greed and complete and total lack of empathy or consideration for anyone else is that even now, as he is qualitatively the bona fide villain of fandom, he STILL wants to be at the center of it all. He's nothing more than a crook and scumbag.

James Cawley put in the hours, put in the investment and built the relationships and played by the rules. He did it all not for fame and glory and profit but for the love of the game, for his own personal fandom of Star Trek. Sure he may not take criticism well at times, but he also has had more than his fair share of shitty Star Trek nerds (myself, unfortunately among them at times) riding his ass like he's supposed to be perfect. He's not.

But Cawley is also, to the best of my knowledge (I've never had the pleasure of meeting him myself), a good guy. He has worked with many of the other fan film groups and has opened his stage and resources to others, including Alec who selfishly, stupidly, and cruelly slapped back that hand of friendship at the first opportunity he could to defend himself and deflect attention from any of his unabashed and blatant wrongdoing.

I will repeat it because it bears repeating. Cawley is a good guy. He is not a crook. The same cannot, in any way, be said of Alec Peters.

You want to be famous Alec? Congrats. You are. But you're only famous to a handful of fans who care about a tiny niche corner of that fandom, and even then most of us still think you're a wrinkly shrimpdick con artist old man who has been, is and remains as talentless as your trophy girlfriend.

wasnt New Voyages going to do a mini about Axanar, starting to wonder why this Alec Peters fellow has ever gotten anyone to work with him, and take him seriously..

This is an important distinction. Cawley put in the hard work. Peters is trying to shortcut his way to whatever perceived top that he wants to achieve. Rather than do the hard work, he wants to buy his way into Hollywood and fandom, by any means necessary.

RMB, would you understand it if you yourself explained it?

Official Axanar Podcast #31, August 2015: minutes 36.25 forward:

You speaking, explaining that the purpose of Ares Studio is to not just make quality Star Trek, but to make quality genre films, comparing your targeted production goal to commercial films and studios. Explicitly saying you want to do something like "Another Earth" (which was picked up for cash, not nonprofit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_Earth#Release )

http://traffic.libsyn.com/axanar/ax-031.mp3

Honestly, RMB, do you think the entire world except for you is stupid and cannot hear you saying exactly what you are saying in this recording? You really never could understand why people QUOTED YOUR EXPLICITLY STATED PLANS FOR THE STUDIO as evidence of intending to run a for profit studio?

And bonus apropos your speculation wondering if something unlicensed might get sold on the above cited tour, note something not speculative, but concrete: just after you explain your goals for the studio, you acknowledge you *know* CBS has refused to license you to make and sell model kits that are "from the Trek world". You state you *understand* why CBS can't license to you. But you say that they should let you, "because you care". All this last August, yet you are still selling unlicensed model kits.

The fucking difference that the Ass-clown Robert Mayer Burnett conveniently leaves out is CBS made a Licensing deal with Mr. Cawley. Why? Because they CBS felt it was a positive thing to promote the Star Trek franchise. I also don't believe it just came out of the blue -- there was work an discussion on BOTH sides to make this happen.

Contrast that with Axanar: Right out of the gate ALL they were saying was that CBS/Paramount haven't made 'good' Star Trek for DECADES and JJ Abrams films sh*t all over 'established continuity', etc. Yeah, great way to get a IP holders to say: "Hey, you really have a positive Star Trek project there that enhances and promotes our brand..."

James Cawley is an example of someone who WORKS WITH people.

Alec Peters and Robert Mayer Burnett are an example of Grade A douchebags who USE people and then get pissed when some of those so used start to speak about their experiences. It's also very hypocritical since these two assholes amassed 1.3 million by selling their unmade fan film. Also, James Cawley has a full range of standing sets. All Axanar has is the largest green screen in California and a half finished set. Funny how Axanar NEVER received an injunction stating they couldn't continue production on Axanar; and for those that say: "Yes, well if they continued production it would just piss C/P off more..."

Yet, they DON'T have a problem posting that 'popular' items are back in stock at their Donor Store:

Yes, so they won't continue any sort of pre-production of Axanar for fear of further antagonizing CBS/Paramount; yet they think actions like continuing to sell unlicensed Star Trek merchandise are no problem. WTF? Why does ANYONE still support these morons?

So, for instance, Star Trek has a Klingon D-7. Axanar has a D-6. Totally different. They don't even look remotely the same. See how the D-6 has artisanal gribblies? Star Trek has an arrow-like crest around its star icon. Axanar has no star. Its Trek has no Star or, for that matter, Trek. Its only star is Alec Peters. #IStandBeneathAlec #MeOrYourLyingEyes

My (attempt at) kidding aside, this whole situation confounds me. "Team Axanar"'s brazen pilfering and "reality distortion field" is mind-boggling enough, but the pitchforks and torches I've heard in some podcasts and I've read on the rare occasion I've tiptoed onto Twitter seems rife with cognitive dissonance.
