Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

They are pushing Beyond hard on MLB Network. Seen four commercials so far while watching the Minor League All-Star game.
Noticed the same thing. A baseball fix during the All Star break and a "Star Trek" fix. Not too bad.

Don't quote me on it - but I always assumed it was for make up reasons. Over the head and fitted would either interfere with make up after it's applied, or restrict access to apply make up.

I've never looked into it and never had to deal with it on a set (the most I've worn during a heavy makeup session was lycra which was pulled over the work, and my on-camera experience is limited)
OK. I won't quote you.

Wait a minute.

D'oh!

Actually, that makes sense.

I'll take Mass Effect.

Star Trek Beyond is a well made scifi adventure. It just isn’t Star Trek. It’s a pretty good Mass Effect movie, though, if you want that.

STAR TREK BEYOND: slick, self-contained & has the best music cue of any blockbuster this yr. by 2016 standards, it’s the sistine chapel. [C]

A rollicking, fun, emotional throwback to The Original Series. Unqualified love for #StarTrekBeyond

Well..
Some ones git to.

Also...mass effect owes a huge huge debt to final fantasy: the spirits within anyway. It's the child of that and babylon 5 with Star Trek it's paternal grandparent.

Not sure what that makes Jj style Trek.
Banjo man was in voyager right?

I haven't actually played Mass Effect, but I'm willing to bet the comparison is BS.

Like the GotG comparison some people have been throwing around. I finally got round to actually watching GotG the other week. It has some very touching moments (opening scene; Rocket & Groot stuff), but they're nothing to do with the plot, which is generic "stop evil guy being evil" stuff. Overall, it's just fluff. The worst Star Trek movie has more to say than GotG.

It's possible. Mass effect is not a bad thing to be compared to for star trek.

Guardians eh....doesn't that and Jurassic World make you think Chris Pratt would be an excellent Kirk? No disrespect to Chris Pine, but Pratt channels 80s era Shatner.

I am looking forward to seeing Beyond, and I say that as someone with fan issues around the JJ verse in general. I still keep hoping Ben Sisko will pop through the wormhole and wrap their whole timeliness up while Q nods sagely. Maybe beyond will convince me the enterprise itself can pop through back into Prime before having a jolly adventure with the Prime crews.

Great to see Simon Pegg was at the LA critics screening.

The reference to Mass Effect could be along the lines that the action takes place far far away and the baddie enslaves those he doesn't kill. And the overall look/feel of Krall's uniform.

Gotta love the following two reactions from David Ehrlich:

(1) no. it made me want to stand up and scream “REMEMBER MOVIES!?”
and yet… it is to Warcraft what Chris Pine is to me

(2) STAR TREK BEYOND: slick, self-contained & has the best music cue of any blockbuster this yr. by 2016 standards, it’s the sistine chapel. [C]

Wow. :adore:

Was not that impressed. He was okay (maybe if I watch again he'll grow on me). Didn't spot any Shatner resemblance. Comparisons with Harrison Ford as Indy are way off. I think Chris Pine would be better in that part, e.g. the bar fight in ST09.

It is still too early to conclude that STB will be good box office, but I think that it is going to surprise me and a good number of fans. I think the press has shown receptiveness to this movie.

Imagine the reaction after 3 days of Comicon, outdoor IMAX and sneak peek word of mouth ifthe reaction is already this good...

Though I am always encouraged by positive receptions to early screenings of films, I only have to look back to the TwitterScape of BvS and Warcraft for their first very early reviews - a lot of love, for films that were eventually panned.

I also find myself still exceptionally wary when it comes to this franchise. There is a lot I like about this Prime Universe, mostly it's breezy adventure and actors. However, on both previous films I have found the story and the plot to be severely wanting and my enjoyment has been struck down accordingly.

Pegg has been a fine writer in his previous major partnerships (Edgar Wright and Jessica Hynes), though they have been blips in Run Fat Boy Run and Paul, so I hold onto hope that his brash, cheerful and humerous spirit translates into Trek.

Sadly, my taste in modern films rarely appears to match that of either the rest of the public or critics (not even TrekMovie.com_, so I will do what every person should do. Screw 'em all and make up my own mind.

Still, after the abysmal summer offerings thus far, we are surely due some fun. Hopefully Beyond will do that, because otherwise all hope rest on Jason Bourne for me to save this summer season. And as much as I enjoy that franchise,I've not felt the trailers thus far.

Hugo - holding out hope
