I love Enterprise, I am just watching it again now it's on Netflix UK.. I forgot just how bad Malcolm is. I'm not sure if it's his acting or the role he was given but he often irritates me! What do you guys think?

I also found him a bit off-putting for no reason I can put a finger on. As a character there was nothing really wrong with him- I think it was the actor playing him. Not nearly as bad as Bakula's portrayal of Archer, though. Although for the life of me now I can't really imagine anyone else in the role.

I think to some degree that was intentional; i.e. that the character wasn't necessarily meant to be entirely likeable.

I never found him actually irritating though.

Trip's a jock? Now, Travis might be, but i never got that vibe from Trip.
I liked Malcolm. He was interesting. A bit of a fish out of water as the weapons guy on a ship of scientist types.

Also no, Trip was not a Jock he was from some small town in America. I don't believe there were any Scots in Enterprise. Not that I can remember at least.

If you mentioned Jock to me, my first thought wouldn't be Scottish. (It has been a while since I've heard it used for that). I'm more used to it being used in relation to sports nowadays.

As for Malcolm, to me, he was just awkward and possibly cliched.

I had mixed feelings about Malcolm. They could have done much more w the character. If the series had been more successful and had lasted longer, I think the Malcolm character would have been developed and explored to a much greater extent. That the series struggled really hampered the character development.

I started watching Enterprise because I was a Bakula fan. Turns out that Malcolm became my favorite character. Probably because he was very much like the male version of ME. To me,, the most "annoying " character was Travis. Mainly because of his "golly gee wiz" demeanor. I think his catch phrase (when asked if he can do something) is "I don't know, Sir, but I can TRY"

Ha That's nice. Bit of a broad generalisation but I'm sure the ones you met didn't like you either.
Probably not. I was a geeky girl at school. I meant that I saw trip as a jock as in a sporty type with more brawn than brains, but that's just the way Trip's demeanor felt to me. You don't get to be a chief engineer on a starship if you're stupid.

Interesting. I would place Travis and Malcolm as being more "jock" than Trip. And Archer was a jock, since he play Water Polo.

Interesting you should see him that way, given that his IMDB bio says he was a college football player who gave that up to go into acting. Pretty perceptive, or it says something about C.T.'s acting abilities. :p
