[Is It Over Yet?]

My Mom was digging through some old bins of ours at home and found this news article from 1995. Pretty cool. The plans they had in mind. Freeing themselves from the shackles of old Trek mythology. New alien races. The Vaphorans. Most of their plans got dropped after Season 1. Energy issues, supply issues, the Doctor's name... Too bad really.

The energy issues continued through most of the series, though used somewhat sparingly. They were forever looking for dilithium or warp plasma and coming up empty due to those "energy sources" being life-forms, or an alien trap.

I'd have to say the silliest energy issue would be the Holodeck being on it's own separate grid from the rest of the ship. You'd think something like the shields or perhaps life support would be a bit more of a priority than Sandrene's.

It's the glaring hole I try to avoid looking at, all because the writers needed a tng crutch. Sickbay should have just been moved to the holodeck.

I suppose the holodeck recycled it's own energy?

Well anyway, it was good they set some limits and had replicator rations. Made the show fun. Paris and Kim get back after being in the prison colony "How about we blow a week's worth of replicator rations? Maybe get a nice steak with apple pie..." Does make a moment like that more special. And the fact that they could save up replicator rations for something special and offset by eating Neelix's cooking was hilarious. And honestly, when the replicators went down, you still had food. No panic or nothing. I thought that part of the food supplies and replicator rations were handled well.

Back around the 30th Anniversary, when Voyager had just begun to air in the UK, I cut out a special in the Radio Times that week. It had all sorts of different things in there, including a Star Trek timeline, mentions of the different programmes that were going to be on the BBC 2 Star Trek night, and of course information about the hot new show.

Why did I throw that out? I threw so much stuff out when I was 18, including old school work now I think about it. I'd love a look at my old life.

Well exactly, if I have to be all sensible about it I was struggling for space, and I must have read through all of things a few times at least.
