1/350 TOS E update and reissue....

When Round2 released the Polar Lights 1/350 scale TOS Enterprise scores of fans and modelers were over the moon with excitement and anticipation. It was the kit so many had been waiting more than forty years for.

But all was not roses because fans were divided over a hotly debated issue: the infamous gridlines.

Round2 made a controversial decision in including the gridlines as an engraved detail on the model. This did not go over well for a lot of fans who felt adding the gridlines should have been left to the individual modeler's choice. Even before the kit was released modelers started sharing methods on how to successfully fill in and cover the gridlines for their builds to look more like what they recalled seeing on television. Suffice to say it is a labor intensive and time consuming task.

Now, however, Round2 has decided to reissue the kit with revisions and as well as make the revised parts available separately: http://www.collectormodel.com/star-...e-developments/#sthash.jqu7oHrc.ivjUdXyU.dpbs

Now you can have your smooth hull Enterprise right out of the box. The parts are already available on pre-order from various hobby sites such as Culttvman: http://www.culttvmanshop.com/Enterp...-BIRD-PRICE--PREORDER-RESERVATION_p_3515.html

It isn't yet known if other small revisions will be made (besides those made to the now smooth saucer hull) or if the revised colour guide--developed during restoration of the original 11 footer--will be included in the new release or made available separately.

So, so tempting. I think I would get murdered if I dove back into model building with the limited space in my house.

I have a 1/350 TOS E kit that I haven't built yet so I would just order the revised parts separately. Culttvman has them on pre-order for only thirty bucks.

This is a neat thing for Round2 to be doing on the 50th anniversary. And given the recent unveiling of the newly restored 11 footer it could inspire a few modelers and spur some sales.
