The Bridge Main Viewing Screen

I just thought that blue edge was a bit of "bleed" , revealing a bit of the "blue-screen" surface where the optical was positioned. I also figured it "glowed" because the optical department tweaked the contrast of the film making the blue bolder for a "cleaner" insertion.

But I'm probably and totally off the mark in my assumption.

Some kind of light strip. You can get a good look at is as Kirk walks by the viewscreen at the end of "The Doomsday Machine".

Do you suppose that the lit border was for the optical compositing? The lit rectangle might have been used as a reference for the effect. I'm just guessing here.

I considered that long ago, but rejected the idea. I knew that the border was part of the set, but even a full bluescreen wouldn't help in compositing. It would merely add steps. A simple locked-off shot and a manual matte is all that is needed. And the glowing border would do nothing to make the frame "more visible." If anything it would make "jigsawing" effects more noticeable.
